I've never seen or even heard of that hotel, and drive up/down 3rd Rd half a dozen times each week. According to the map it's up a Soi next to a 7/11 which really doesn't narrow things down, everything here is up a Soi next to a 7/11 .

You should have posted some parameters for opinions on where to stay and more importantly, eat!. There's some good places around 3rd Rd (Bite Me, Cherry, Steak and Co, Smokin Joe's, etc) but with a car, there's literally hundreds of easily accessible options ranging from basic restaraunts to fine dining and everything in between with food from all corners of the globe that locals could have steered you towards.

I stayed at Four Seasons Place last year, it is only 200m from "The boxing Roo" bar on 3rd road - which is a purveyor of LT's excellent pies.

Therefore I hope you will go and enjoy fine dining on the unquestionably most superior pies in Thailand.

^The only use I have for the Boxing Roo is to use it as a landmark for finding New York Pizza which is right next door. While waiting for the pizza/calzone/meatball sub to be readied I sometimes have a beer in the Roo and am never ceased to be amazed that it's still open, and has been for +/- 20 years that I know of. That joint is dire .

Can I tactfully suggest you hire a dinner suit, go to the Roo for the evening and book the degustation of pies.

it was all done on a bit of a whim. apparently sitting on the sofa for 6 weeks and drinking beer isn't how i should spend my holidays...

Bizarre OP. A quick check of t'internet would have yielded any number of options but I have to say that with a car and a sprog in tow I would have settled for the Birds & Bees aka Cabbages and Condoms Resort in Soi 4 Pratumnak for my hotel accommodation.

How could he miss the Hilton? Buffets there are damn good value.

The place of choice now for families is the Centara in Wongamat which offers good water fun facilities if that is your bag as well as the usual ersatz international style restaurants. Most Pattay " high end " restaurants are ok( ish) but rarely equate to fine dining often making do with mediocre imported produce or disguised local stuff - wine prices are stupidly inflated in most instances.

Third road is the fucking boonies.

they did, but we left it so late to book that all the usual suspects were full.

I love the Four Seasons..especially the one in Beijing. I was a member for three years there. They have a great pool and gym.
