    Family Weekend Away from BKK

Thinking of leaving on a Friday and coming back on a Sunday so the drive would have to be quite short.

So far I've got Suan Phueng (There's a nice English style resort that looks nice - https://www.agoda.com/bibury-resort/....html?cid=-211)

Or Kanchanaburi on the river (https://www.thefloathouseriverkwai.com/)

Maybe something in Chonburi/Pattaya? No idea what hotels are nice for families though..

    Any other recommendations?

I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

If you go there and have a youngish family, maybe this for a few hours entertainment ... especially if it's hot or raining.

no - I take the women to the seafood market in the morning where they buy a foam box load then back to the beach across the road to sit in beachchairs and drink and talk etc all day.

the seafood is cooked by the ladies with stalls at the beach and the 7-11 across the road has a nice white linedermans and cold beers
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

    Kanchanaburi.

Upto the city. Book a floating hotel on the river. less than 1k thb.

Then drive up to Muang Sing temple.

2 hour longtail speedboat ride. Will collect you off the floating balcony off your floating hotel room. Will go to big cave and temple complex.

Nice big evening market with strange animals and everything else.

The kid will love the floating hotel and speedboat ride.

Dinner on the restaurant that's on top of your floating hotel that's on the river overlooking the mountains and river.

Ditch the family and rent a bike and go bike riding for the rest of the time.

Ko chang aint that far a drive from bangkok. Ive just got back from there weathers not that great now but on the plus side hotels are cheap stick the car on the ferry and your totally independant to go anywhere anytime you want. I stayed in the 1 bedroom apartment ( it has 2 d.ouble beds) at paddys palms recommended to me by iceman . Not on the beach but not fwr from it swimming pool and jaccuzi in the room . Fantastic place

For sheer easiness, I'd plump for the D Varee in Jomtien.

Classed as a 4 star, but more like a 3 with brekkie thrown in.

Just checked on Agoda. 2.5k for a night with 2 large swimming pools, an hour and a bit from home with English food for you, seafood for her and whatever the nipper fancies.

They have a bar on the 38th(ish) floor too.

    --EDIT--

If you want something cheaper, go for Mermaids Beach Resort. Family freindly, 1200 Baht with (not so good) brekkie and a decent pool with bar.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Leave for Koh Chang on a Friday (afternoon, presumably) and return on Sunday?

    With a kid?

    Seriously?

I'm sure you've been in Bangkok long enough to know your options for weekend getaways are limited, to say the least, armstrong.

Jomtien and Pattaya are by far the most practical suggestions. It's the major reason why Pattaya is so popular with 'non-sexpat' Thais, of course. There just isn't really anywhere else.

Woodland Resort is popular with families...good pool for kids.

Bang Saen is, of course, a tip full of pissed up oiks.

thanks guys, i will run these ideas through the wife, (thus taking all the credit) and see what happens.

I like the idea of Kanchanaburi but I literally did all that on a school trip a few months ago, but at least I'd know what I was doing I guess...

Forgot to mention it can be a bwstard trying to get off ko chang on a Sunday. We arrived on a Sunday and saw cars lined up for about 4 mms down the highway waiting to get on the ferry. Expect a long wait. Maybe ko changes not for you this time

leaving koh chang on the ferry on sunday is the same as leaving samui, long lines...
do NOT suggest either for a weekend holiday with your own car (at least in samui u can BOOK ur ferry departure time)
    also avoid school holidays

This would really help a lot.

You've spent a couple of months now basically typing two or three posts over and over again.

    It's fking boring.
