These are some really nice examples of what this part of Thailand can offer up. Nothing has changed.

If you ever come across a crusty arsed old farang tool who tries to tell you,

" Thailand is shit now and you should of been here 30 years ago "

just give him a swift kick in the nuts and walk away.

Do not direct the tosser to this thread.

    Ta.

Anyway on this 9 Day tour we cranked up 1400 KLM.

Not hard to do if ya really start poking around.

My usual road trips run 2 K.

Presumably it is because you are young and immature to a degree verging upon the puerile that you cannot conceive of an existence outside of your own limited horizons, but please do not assume that all we retirees are so vapid as to think for one moment one's retirement can be sustained by just a fucking beach.

I have always favoured Bangkok as the best venue for retirement, on the not inconsiderable grounds it was quite near to Thailand, but the increasing deterioration in air quality has driven me away. Pattaya is the compromise and one that I have not regretted for one moment since I can now breathe without impediment, have access to excellent services and live on a very pleasant strand among nice people. Whores and their squalid infrastructure do not impinge at all on our existence although I can well understand their attraction for many TD posters who have contracted their relationships therefrom.

Rather more telling of our resident northern poof if you ask me. Brilliant? Perhaps, but only if you are of the sort that might describe an egg as "awesome"......

I'm the same as you mate - stayed in a few of these cheap beach huts the first time I visited Thailand at around 19, great times!

It was a great experience at the time and I'd recommend it to any youngster on their first big Asia trip, but don't think I could handle it myself these days!

Fuck that, I remember all sorts of creatures hanging out in my rooms haha. Much prefer a nice comfy bed and a decent shower to doing the "rustic" thing!

Great thread btw mate - I'll be honest, I've visited Samui a couple of times and thought it was an over-developed shithole, probably because I never properly explored it. Nice to see that there are still some lovely little spots if you seek them out.

I am partial to a bong or ten my friend but I think I'd have a bit of trouble handling that one.
