Pictures from latest travels around Thailand

Just got back from our annual trip back to the wife's homeland. Thought I would post some pictures I took of our travels as I always enjoy seeing everyone's pictures. This first group was all around Ban Tak I have posted pictures from here a few times already but hope these are some different ones.

This is down at the river that runs through Ban Tak the ping river I believe. Its so nice and clean looking.

This is a cousin of the wife's family who was loving the water.

This old timer was shuffling down to the river for a bath.

I went out on a bike in the mornings. This was at sunrise during that cold spell a few weeks ago.

It was quite misty before the sun came up.

These are just some houses from the village. I would love to have one of these old style houses on the river. May need one to get away from all the traffic and filth of Pattaya. Although our house is on the dark side in Pattaya the traffic this year was insane trying to get into town. The number of busses driving around there was just crazy.

This place would be my dream house.

    Caught this old guy napping.

I don't think these kids see to many westerners around. So they all stopped there game to have a look. I did see two other western guys this year. With my brother in law and me they probably think where taking over the place.

    No traffic problems here.

This guy was walking down the river talking to himself. Must have been a nutter. He was very happy to have found something in the water not sure what.

The water level was very low this year in the afternoon. Then would come up in the evening when they let water out of the big dam up there.

I haven't seen many boats around here. I would definitely get some kind of small boat to explore the river if we got a place up here. There is plenty of water for it in the morning.

That's it for now. I think that small town is growing on me. I used to hate going up there. Now I find myself liking it more may be a different story after a few month though.

I can see the temptation, the place looks so natural and tranquil. I think that the inevitable boredom would set in after a while. I suppose it would depend upon your need for modern living and social interaction with persons of a similar background.

    Great pics, well done.

I think we would have to keep our place in Pattaya to visit. But Pattaya always seems so bad after being up there. Everywhere has good and bad points I guess. Sometimes the best bet is to give it a few years and see what happens.

    Thanks for all the comments

Current jealousy levels are off the fucking chart.

    Lovely pictures.

Time spent outside of Thailand is essentially just filler.

I want paddy fields and unskilled female farmhands in wellington boots and sombreros. I want a daily finger or five of ya dong at the local shop and I want the lion's share of my lunch to comprise crispy pork crackling. I want balmy evenings on the balcony in the company of a good book and my old pal beer chang. I want to wake up to the half-baked calls of the Siamese rooster and the putt-putt-out of a tractor en route to the neighbouring custard apple plantation.

But most of all I want the bum gun back in my life. Indeed that hallowed pistol is easily taken for granted. Cherish it y'all. Cherish the arse blaster.

Time to moved the clan back to the far reaches of Isaan, Slap.

    Pings of homesickness.

Awsome, have you ever tried a hook and line in a deeper pool? I love a good fish story. Looks peaceful. I'd have a blast with a kayak

Thanks for all the kind replies. I'm back home in the U.S. now and already miss it.

I haven't tried any fishing yet. I have only seen small fish in the village area but I have seen much bigger fish in the same river in Tak. There are some real big ones in the dam reservoir I have seen them.

A few years ago someone posted on here about taking lunch into a school or orphanage in Thailand. After reading that I mentioned it to my wife and after a few years of talking about it we finally set it up. She knows a teacher from the village that works at a school in the mountains not far from Ban Tak. Not sure the full story on this school but it had been some years since anyone had done something like this there.
The whole family got involved and some neighbors from the village so we had a pretty good load of stuff to take up there. Here are a few pictures. It sure put my own life into perspective.

So here are a few pictures.

The village was difficult to photograph. The first couple are the surroundings.

They left one or two trees standing.

It looked to be mostly corn being grown. They were harvesting and trucking it down the mountain.

Here are some of the children. Most seemed to be enjoying it.

The ice cream was a big hit.

The place was a real dust bowl.

When I saw how many there where I thought we didn't have enough but everyone got some. The smart ones got two.

They were coming in from everywhere.

They loved these masks too. All the non-food stuff came from the wholesale market in china town.

The kids were camera shy. Probably haven't seen to many westerners either.

Probably didn't like the looks of those doughnuts. They were bused in from Bangkok the night before.

These kids probably high on sugar.

    Not everyone was smiling.

Here are a few last pictures. We had a nice time visiting the school and hope to go back next year. Now that we have done it once we'll have a better idea of what to bring they really needed sox and stuff like that.

    Barbour shop.

    Mountain style exercise bikes.

Here is another set of pics. My nephew and his in laws started a small farm on the island that is in middle of the ping river there. Not sure what the land ownership deal is but there are alot of others farming on the island.

First you have to get over there.

looks like a nice piece of land

I think they plan to make a bridge like this one.

I will be looking forward to see it next year. If they haven't lost interest.

If your passing through Tak and looking for a place to stop for coffee there is a nice spot at the north end of town on the main high way.

here is the name. Its on the north bound side.

    pancakes too.

I hope its still there next year.

One last set from Ban Tak.

somtamslap here is one for you. From a fine local restaurant.

This would be a nice little house. Probably what the family will put me in when I'm dying.

It's to cold to lay on the ground.

Must be fun to climb one of these ladders at the same time as cutting palm fronds.

Those kids looks so happy! Good on you for taking them some treats. People don't realize many remote villagers are subsistence farmers who have NO money. Their kids really do without.
