Tokyo's supposed to be interesting albeit expensive, I've a feeling it's a four hour flight rather than three, but worth a look..

    Cheers

The trouble with MeMocks question is that 3 days is sweet fuk all.

I'd just stay in Bangkok, book into a top hotel and enjoy that without having to go to the Airport jump a plane land somewhere, have a shit and then fly back to Bangkok again.

    Lot of bollicks that innit.

Anyway, Ive been to Penang a heap of times and if he really needs to fly somewhere mose well go here and just piss around the joint doing tourist shit.

I'll even give him a hotel. " Continental "George town. Good quality high rise, cheap price if booked in advance and a brilliant little eating and drinking hole right next door.

Even give him a blinder of a booking sight that saves one a shit load.

    Trivago. com.

    There ya go. Enjoy.

if you're considering Malaysia to add to your list, both Penang and Langkawi suffer their worst rains in September and October, so you've not picked a bad time to come.

Both islands offer something totally different,

If you want a few days on the beach, it's gotta be Langkawi, other things to do there would be sea eagle feeding, go karting, going up the cable car, visiting the crocodile farm. It's a duty free island too, so all the booze is cheap, unlike the rest of Malaysia.

Penang has the history, if you're into looking at heritage buildings, places of worship, a run down fort and the like, a train up a hill. The beaches are not bad, but the sea is full of jellyfish. You do get some nice sunsets up Batu Ferringhi though. The food's great in Penang, Chinese,l Indian, Malay, Indo and loads of shite American Diners. The traffic can be heavy on a Friday or after 5pm other days.

If you're a family man Memock, both places are great for a few days with loads to do.

    visas on arrival
Kathmandu is great city and 3 days is plenty to see it
    3 1/2 hour flight

Penang is also very nice ( 1 hour flight+) but given the chose would visit KTM

Mandalay Burma would be my 1st choice, Pre book everything. get visa in Bangkok but takes the full day ( drop off morning, pick up afternoon, fly next day)
    Kathmandu 2nd
    Penang 3rd

I'm gagging to get back to Nepal but searching return flights from Bangkok ain't making me happy.

I recon I will time a Visa run down to KL and jump an Air Asia flight from there.

Great prices AA to Nepal and get a little holiday in KL.

    Love Air Asia.

    Nice to be flexible innit.

No good for our friend as he has only 3 days.

That is a very good deal.

I was looking on sky scanner for November and it came in at around a $800 bucks.

Maybe need to have a look again eh. November is high season though.

I more than likely stuffed the search up.

Re taj mahal option looks good, but heard on the radio they are about to cover the lot in lime filled mud to clean the marble! So would need to check when this is completed as it may be closed for some time or at best covered in mud!

Yea Penang is great fun. But if only 3 days why not hang in bkk? Much more to explore there. The 4th floor of the nana maybe. That's where willy goes.

Penang's Georgetown Festival has been moved to August this year. Always something interesting to do/see.

Well I have finally got my A into G and made a decision and booked a few tickets.

Once I sort out my few jobs in Bangkok I am going to catch a train to Prachuab Khiri Khan to check out some real estate down there and also catch up with a mate who has just opened the best new cafe and bakery in the area.

Then back to Bangkok and hop a flight to Penang where I will have two nights but only one full day before a flight to Singapore, Darwin and then onto home.

Few questions. I want to stay in Georgetown. Any hotel suggestions around the 2 - 3,000 baht range? The day I am there I plan to lace up the walking shoes and hit the road for at least half of the day. I don't mind covering up to 10kms. I like old buildings and history. Any places I really should't miss?

Also, Can I walk into hua lamphong railway station on the Sunday of a long weekend to book a train ticket for the following day? I have tried to book online but because of the long weekend the few companies I tried said they are closed
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

Penang ,, loved it earlier this year .

Bloody superb transport system , cheap as well .

Georgetown cracking place to stay .

So many cultures in a small space , everyone gets along fine and the muzzies really want you there .

One word of warning though , personally I love the heat , BUT this is one hot place , the hotel next to us was showing 33 deg at 3 am on the digital readout
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

Here are the clues you've given:

up to 3 hours from Bkk
    not Thailand
    fairly frequent route, direct flight
already done Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia (only Bali though) Hong Kong /Macau and Cambodia.

Now you seek something different, but not Burma or China.

Is there any special place that I am missing?

Process of elimination, I checked a map of the region using those criteria...looks like Malaysia.

But your supplementary clue on Indonesia "(only Bali though)" also leaves the door open for Indonesia (not Bali though).
