    WTF - Thailand AND Cambodia?

So, booked to fly into Bkk on the 14th, day after the protests kick off, and some say they may be prolonged and violent. Then fly to Siem Reap and head south.

Been reading that things are going belly-up there too, particularly PP.

Keep on travelling, or just cancel and do a Vietnam/Philippines trip?

I come from SA, so I've seen and been in my fair share of violence, but I'm not going on a holiday to watch people attacking one another, with martial law etc etc.

    Am I over reacting?

    Keep my current itinerary?

I wouldn't change any plans, should be cool. Maybe add Bangladesh to the list of hot spots to visit.

Seriously though, it shouldn't affect the airport (this time), but probably best not to make solid plans in Bangkok around the 13th and days after. Maybe book a flight up to Chiang Mai and back before you head to Cambodia.

Thailand is not one of those countries where they target innocent bystanders or ambulances ........... no wait, the army did.

But still outside of the hotspots you should be safe. People really don't routinely kill foreigners or aid workers. I was in Thailand three times as a tourist and twice experienced military takeovers. Was no problem for me though. Life continued as norma.

So, best for me to leave my favourite Coca Cola t-shirt and yellow wife beater at home for the trip?

Edit: Danger Island does look appealing. Given that I'm an African Boi, they might take me in like their long lost brethren. Of course, I'll bring tobacco, gum and toothpaste (just as a precaution - never know what Danger Island 7-11 might not stock).

Relax. For Gods sake. It is the same same as South Africa and the rest of the World.
Only if You venture into designated areas You MAY if you are lucky to see something. Only journalists hit the hot spots on time, same same South Africa, the agitators phone them up well in advance, press be here on time.

    Relaxed.

Bkk was chill, same same as usual.

Siem Reap boring as hell. Then heading to Sihanoukville by night bus. Two or three days there, then off to Koh Chang on another shitbus ride.

Hope to get some chill-time there.

Cambodia is more third world than I expected. Thailand and Philippines, even Vietnam were better developed.

Guess you gotta try everything once.
