Bye bye mainland
A Tesco Lotus truck doing its delivery
The terminal on Samui is called international, even thought it isn't.
We stopped for lunch at a place that had cabins. You can see them on the other side. I thought this boat was really cool with its own solar panel.
The food, lol
This ladyboy was waiting to cross the street to get to her farang boyfriend on the other side. When she got across, they both got into a taxi.
I was able to zoom in on her, 555.

We stayed at The Lamaiburi Resort, which backs on to The Lamai Muay Thai Camp. I had breakfast at this great place right beside it. As I was having my breakfast (and hubby was sleeping) a guy came in and started talking to me. He is Filipino Australian and a semi pro Muay Thai fighter. He told me that The Lamai Muay Thai Camp is recognized around the world and that it's very good. I think I have a shot of it somewhere.
We did a drive around the island counterclockwise. So here's Lamai and the night market
The Cliff and 666 together? I don't think I want to go there.
Koh Samui is famous for its coconuts and you see these processingplaces all around the island, usually right on the beach.
Lots of nice green space on Samui
...and durian
We went to The Big Buddha
Coming up to it
This guy was guarding the entrance
There's some beautiful artwork inside showing the history of Buddhism in Thailand.
I made my donation into the Monday urn since that is my day of birth.
OK, that's all for now. I might post more later on tonight, I need to do some editing first.
lots of photos Nat to remember your trip by. Very nice. Looks like a good time was had by all.
Nice to see the Big Buddha again. Brings back many happy memories. I remember that the fortune telling thing was bang on, in my case. Great pictures!
A nice small beach on the northwest side
A nice house overlooking it
A nice small resort on the beach
We stopped here for lunch
This resort has a rare type of banyan tree
This one is at the top of a steep hill
There are only two monks who live here and we met one of them
It has a lot of these buddhas, each with a phrase and a dedication on it.
The second chedi is on the beach. They're building a new temple here too.
They have a nice map sponsored by McDonald's
There's a nice pond next to the temple
The water was so still
When we got over to the shore, the waves were crashing against the breakwater
Awesome photos! Thank you for sharing. My wife has never been past Hua Hin and these will help her to understand a bit more of what Southern Thailand is all about before I take her. Way better than the travel mags! Also I can get her to teach me what the various food items are in your photos that I do not recognize so I can order when I am out and about--or she can cook the ones she is familiar with. I viewed your shots while eating grits, ham, eggs and tortillas here at my other home in Arizona. Ciao and THANKS AGAIN!!!-kw
Hi, Love the Pic's and report. Im jealous 55.
What did you think of Kho Lak ? When I went it was low season and very quiet, good deals on beach front accom only 1200 bht a night..sweet. But I did find it a bit depressing, so many reminders of the Tsunami (spelling).
Great that put up pics of Kho Samui, Im going there on my next trip, but im going to make sure there's no Full Moon while im there if you get my drift.
Look forward to the next lot of pic's. thanks.
Thanks Natalie. The first three pics in post 54 bring back some memories...
Thanks so much, RK. I have a few more from Samui, then Pranburi.Originally Posted by rakukenny

I've always loved Khao Lak area and I want to buy a property there. We have land in Phuket, but Khao Lak is so much more laid back and quiet.Originally Posted by fireysteve

You're very welcome, sts. I'm glad my pics can do that.Originally Posted by somtamslap
We went to the spot on the beach that has these, but little did we know, the only way to see Grandmother Rock is by boat. I got a few good shots of Grandfather Rock and some other scenery though.
You have to walk a bit to get to them and there are signs in English and Thai to guide you.
There are a couple of beachside bars and restaurants here
So here it is. TBH it was pretty disappointing after all the hype.
The water here was nice

Tacky tourist stuff on the way out
This is really cool. This monk's body is perfectly preserved. Unfortunately there's a strong glare on the glass so he's a bit hard to see. I tried my best to get a good angle.
