6 Day Road Trip To Chiang Mai

On Saturday the 4th in the morning we set off for Phitsonaluk as a halfway point on our journey to Chiang Mai.

The car ready to be loaded.

Trunk filled and ready to pull out. Excited and must have had a shaky hand.

We decided to stop and have a good lunch and get a blessing from a big monk in Nakhon Sawan, fine with me as I had never been there and it was a nice location up on a hill.

A view of the main temple and a pretty cool observation tower.

They finally woke up at the temple.

Three hours into the trip and the family pictures have begun, from the tower.

The view from the restaurant towards Nakhon Sawan.

Looking due west, all of this was flooded.

We decided to stay at the Topland hotel in Phitsonaluk as it was close to all the temples my wife wanted to visit. There are three shots and then my camera died. It remained dead until the 7th.

Bedroom with a king, the kids were adjoining in a twin.

The obligatory shitter shot, notice the telephone in the bathroom.

Not much of a view but something.

I am still trying to get the photos out of a freaking I pad taken over the next 2 and a half days, but I will get more up soon of our trip to Mae Rim and Mae Sa Waterfalls.

On the advice of a friend we booked into the Baanpong Lodge, what a delightful place it was.
    The entrance.

The car park is below the lodge which is built up high, the owner and I looking down on the car park.

A nice pool the bar and restaurant are off to the left.

The owner had this tower put in for the internet. Free wifi, 10 on the download and 2 on the up, faster than I can get in BKK.

The outdoor seating area of our bungalow, they were two stories with the loft up stairs being the sleeping area, and the downstairs for TV and relaxing. Again they were connecting rooms.

Tea and coffee, mini bar, and a computer station.

Nice shower but I forgot the shitter, it was nice as well.

TV in the sitting area of the kids bungalow looking out.

King size bed up in the loft, the kids had doubles.

Looking down at the living area from the loft.

Thanks terry, we then took off the next day for Mae Sa waterfalls. I had never been in the wet season and there was so much more water.

Level one of the falls we made it to the 8th level as there was rain coming and no swimming was allowed in the top two.

The proud dad with his daughters, I turned 60 this very day.

Level 4 you can see the amount of water, nobody would go in except these crazy Thai guys.

looking down from the 7th level to the 6th, I think.

There comes a time when kids grow up. " Look over there that is the birthplace of Buddah" after I got their attention in unison as so often with twins, yeah right "bullshit dad"

The rare Luk Kreung monkey getting ready to use the vine rope swing she found.

Nice shot of all the water. I had always been in cool season before so I was quite impressed with the flow.

A happy man, my kids are still expert rock skippers.

This one was taken by my wife's close friend with an I phone, dont say they cant take nice photos, I am getting this one framed.

More to come as soon as we get the I Pad to send the pictures to my ubuntu system.

Yes indeed. But this place is real swanky. No bum gun required. Just phone reception when you're through and a cute maid comes to wipe you up and down.

Great photos AO and the resort in Sankamphaeng looks great. Little bit confused though...... did you spend the 6 day road trip getting to CM going the Burmese border route through Mae Sot, Mae Hong Son etc, or do you mean you had a 4 or 5 day holiday in Nakhon Sawan and then headed off up for another holiday in Chiang Mai, with day trips to Mae Rim and Mae Sa? What am I missing?

spicy it was BKK/PIT the first night we stopped in Nakorn Sawan for the lunch and a blessing at the temple. Then to Chaing mai for 4 nights, 2 in the city and 2 out. Back through Tak on the last night. 18 provinces we think. LPG is great, not even 2100 baht for all that milage.

Two days out of sync because of the camera problems. But they shall be corrected.

Thanks nat, have loved your Olympic and London threads as well.

WOW! A great trip! You are an awesome and wise man. You have a truly wonderful family. Soon those beautiful young ladies will be off to college and you and the wife will be alone. I think that you two will enjoy some great times even though you will miss your girls. Green inbound brother.

    Happy Birthday, Pops.

It's good to see the twins are starting to have distinguishing features which allows others to tell them apart now. Until fairly recently, they looked identical to me.
