Pet Cremation

M'Sahib has gone to a cremation at a temple in Pa Klok (east coast of Phuket) this afternoon, lending support to one of her friends. Difference with this interment is that it's for one of her friends cats. We've used a pet cremation service before for some of our own animals that passed, but this is a first for one actually being held in a temple.

We have 6 permanent animals at present and a few visitors .Had to bury a few in the garden over the years , never heard of such a ceremony in Lanna, is a a Sino-Thai family or just local types PAG?

I believe cremation in Esarn is called cookery

I guess monks are always available for "Cash Jobs" big eats, strictly no cheques or refunds.

Our local Abbot and team of 8 is the minimum you can "hire" I asked it was a religeous or lucky number until it was explained Abbot Shotgun and only 8 of these very well fed lads fit in a Hilux!

When I asked wife what vegetarian food I need supply she clarified they wanted prawns like other guests, and so it goes in Land of Sanity

Does that temple do human cremation also or just pets?

It was at one time thought odd by Thais to have pets cremated. These days it is common. When my pooch died recently, the veterinarian arranged for her to be cremated and her ashes returned to me.

I’ve never been to a temple for a pet ceremony. I’ve been to them in people’s yard.

An Esarn friend of mine was horrified when I mentioned my dog should be cremated. He said cremation is for people to go to heaven and dogs were for barbecue.

I normally feel quite somber at funerals.

Was anyone in tears at this one Pag, expressing their sorrow for the owners loss and mentioning what a great feline he was, how he'll be missed and that it's a lovely turnout?

Yes, they do both apparently, but in different buildings. No monks chanting at the pets one. Two of our previoius pets were cremated, but not at a temple. Bit of a ceremony which we didn't attend, flowers on the bodies etc, and the ashes returned to us also. From recollection, about 5000 baht I believe.

Only M'Sahib's friend and her mother, plus M'Sahib of course. A few tears were shed for Sabrina (note, female) cat.

This cat apparently lives in the temple building, and welcomes all who enter.
