Illuminated Boat Procession

BANGKOK, 24 October 2010 (NNT) - The annual Illuminated Boat Procession kicked off at Nakorn Panom Province. The event drew a multitude of people who were stunned by the beauty of the procession.
Tourists from all over the country as well as locals flocked along the Mekong River to witness the beauty of the magnificent procession; Sunthornwijit Road in Nakorn Panom Province was jammed with people on their way to the site where the illuminated boat procession was to be held.
This year, 18 illuminated boats from 12 different districts competed in the Illuminated Boat Procession contest, which is divided into two categories: creative and beauty types.
Each boat is decorated with over 100,000 incandescent lamps depicting different images beautifully. Thousands of tourists also floated krathongsais (stringed krathongs) in the the mighty Mekong River to celebrate the event held annually at the end of Buddhist Lent.
