Crocodile Egg Eating Competition to celebrate Labor Day.

The 1st May is Labor Day here in Thailand and every year, the Pattaya Crocodile Farm holds a huge event, the highlight of which is a crocodile egg eating competition. Khun Suan, the owner of the farm opened the event which featured a number of foreign competitors. Contestants had to eat a total of 10 crocodile eggs as quickly as possible. Many could not eat the 10 eggs; however there was a winner who went away with a cash prize of 10,000 Baht. Khun Udom aged 43 from Ban Bung District, who won the competition last year, won this years competition. Second place and 5,000 Baht went to Khun Payup aged 38 with the 3,000 Baht third prize going to Khun Nopanun aged 41. Unfortunately none of the foreign competitors figured in the top 5. There were plenty of other events taking place at the farm including a Muay Thai Boxing Show.

PATTAYA’S 7TH ANNUAL CROCODILE EGG EATING COMPETITION

On Labour Day (1st May 2009), the Million Year Stone Park and Crocodile Farm in Pattaya organized the annual Crocodile Egg Eating Competition to promote and conserve the crocodile egg eating culture in the Eastern Region, as well as to promote good public relations for the park and crocodile farm. This was the 7th year of the event, which attracted 50 competitors, both Thais and foreigners.

Mr. Kasem Wattanatham, the Chonoburi Deputy Provincial Governor presided over the event which kicked off at 1.30 pm. Also in attendance were Mr. Suan Panomwattana, the president of the Chonburi Council of Cultural Affairs, Dr. Yodtong Sriwaraluk, an advisor to the Nongprue municipality administration together with several tourists and locals.

The winner of the competition was he or she who was the first to eat 10 crocodile eggs. There was no time limit, as opposed to last year when a 10 minute limit was imposed.

As soon as the start whistle blew, all competitors did their best to consume all their eggs as quickly as possible, ‘egged’ on by their cheering fans, but constrained by one new rule – to eat them with decorum and good manners.

This year the winner was Mr. Udom Buut-ngam (43) from Banbung , Chonburi, who also won last year. He received 10,000 Baht cash and a certificate.

The runners up were Mr. Pahyup Pansangthong(38) and Mr. Noppanun Pansangthong [41] who received 5000 baht and 3000 baht respectively, together with their certificates. Consolation prizes went to Mr. Pairat Wattanawiboon [49], Mr. Sak [24] and Mr. Dtoo [35], a Cambodian national. They each received 1000 baht cash each.

Finally, two honorary prizes were given to two female competitors, Miss Chomchin Joobanrai [31] and Miss Noochjari Sudarak [12], a student, year P. 5 from Thamwatee school Chonburi. Both received 1000 baht each.

Everyone enjoyed the proceedings, and we look forward to the return of the competition next year.
