'Candle Festival' in Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima)

Sorry I'm a little late in posting these pics from last week in Korat. These floats were parked up in Korat on 30th July and the parade was on the 31st. I took these pics on the 30th due to it being easier to do than when the parade is in full swing. All floats, for those that don't know, are made from wax and are works of art IMO. The floats are judged and the winner gets 30,000 Baht prize. Must have cost that just for the wax?

We don't live in Korat but about 100km East, just off the 24 near Nang Rong. Anyone wishing to go and see the parade in Korat next year needs to book an hotel early as we found it difficult to find a room.

I used to live in Korat. Nice place. I miss swimming at the Mall. Some nice pubs/clubs there too.

    Really? how come Bobo?

The only 2 things I don't like about Korat are:- the arrogant drivers and the arrogant women (jing jing)... they think their shit don't smell... doorway to Isaan...
they hate that term lol... snobs... bkk wannabes

The place itself, is quite clean - well thought out and convenient. Made some good friends there (Farang) had a couple good fights too!

I also hate the place. I'm in a bad mood as soon as the missus mentions there's a trip pending

It may be clean but the place ain't that well thought out IMO. Too much trying to be crammed into little space. They're making the 'Mall' bigger. How're they going to cope with the surge in traffic? It's struggling now. Thankfully Buriram is on the up and a much better place to shop as an alternative..

One in the 'Mall' and one in Tesco's on the way out of Korat, I believe. May well be one in Tesco's up and opposite the 'Mall' as well?

The floats are from Ubon Ratchatani's annual Candle featival, which was held in mid- July. After the festival in Ubon, the floats travel and are pit on display in various communities.
The Candle Festival floats are spectacular and if visiting Ubon for the festival go early and visit some of the Wats and see how they are made.

    It's going to get worse.

They are building a Terminal 21 and a Central Mall on the road that goes to the bus station.

Terminal 21 will be opposite big C.

One of the worst city layouts ever.

Central have pulled out. They have the land, but no build, at least not yet. Shame really, as a TOPS supermarket would have been good and hopefully made the Mall's Fresh Mart pull their finger out.

A new road has been opened at the back of the Mall that means it can be accessed without hitting the Mittraphap Road and another change will involve a new road layout outside the Mall on the Mittraphap Road allowing cars to turn right when leaving the Mall. Don't know if that will help the traffic flow though.

I find it very difficult to wax lyrical over these floats. Same ones pulled out of a big shed every year.

Does anyone know why these wax sculptures don't melt under a Thai sun?

It is because they are made of candle wax not fecking chocolate
