    Not many people.

Actually the streets look pretty empty. A bit scary, like in an horror movie, you wake up and everybody is gone.

    Is it normal ?

during daytime yes, that's quite normal. People are on the beaches, it's just too hot to stroll thru the steets where you have no chance of a little breeze...

Lived and worked in Samui in late 1990 for a few months.

Loved it at first, but the local Samuians are not that nice and an aquaintance of mine was murdered by them.

After that I decided to go back to work in Phuket and vowed never to return.

I haven't yet but my wife wants to go.

Ah the Irish Pub with the Philippine band. They are pretty good. They came to Surat once and didn't go over so well.

    Nice pix, thanks.

That has brought back some memories.

I lived and worked in Lamai when I first moved to Thailand in 2005.

Unfortunately Samui had its worst monsoon for 30 years when I was there with one storm lasting for 3 days resulting in huge devastation across the island.

When I lived there Samui was given the dubious honour of being named as the most expensive place in Thailand to live. Not sure if it is now.
