Bamboo Island is a small deserted island near Koh Phi Phi. I stayed there overnight with a few friends during Songkran 2005. It was amazing.

Can you literally translate that to "No Go Island" ?
You could if you say it incorrectly like I do.
So who owns the island, how large is it and does it have any kind of support as far as utilities from the mainland?
Why so many questions? There's a building on it that belongs to the government but it's no longer in use. Why don't you just go there and enjoy the experience?

OK sorry about that. It's actually a good story.
In 2005, a friend of mine was volunteering in Phuket, Phang Nga and on Phi Phi Island to help rebuild after the tsunami. I was working in BKK and I took a flight to Phuket with plans to go to Phi Phi for the holidays.
My friend became friends with a few of the other volunteers and 6 of us went to Phi Phi as a group. They had told me about Bamboo Island and suggested we spend the night there.
When you take a boat over, you can see two islands, Bamboo Island and Mosquito Island. They're both really small and nobody lives on them, but you can go over to either of them for the day to snorkel or hang out on the beach. My friends had planned to go over to spend the night as an impulse thing.
We arranged a boat beforehand and the ride is about 30 minutes. We saw dolphins jumping out of the water. It was really special (for lack of a better word) to be on an uninhabited island and have real peace, serenity and quiet. We saw tons of stars and the lights from the squid boats.
I'll post more pics, but I have to resize them as they're really big. Here's a map. You can see Koh Phi Phi, and north of it you can see Koh Yung (Mosquito Island) and Koh Mai Pai.
More amazing than the typical cesspool Thai beach I hope ... AKA ... Koh Mai Yaak PaiOriginally Posted by natalie8

I've been on bamboo Island briefly. I did a tour of some of the islands on speed boat. Beautiful pics, Nat. It looks so non-touristy which is nice compared to Koh Phi Phi.
