    Sai Keaw Beach Restaurant

Last weekend I yet again decided genorously to treat the galfriend and son, yep I take them to all the best places.

Sai keaw or White sands beach is between Pattaya and Satahip, This beach is actually on the naval base so you have to hand in some id and get a tag for your car, at the weekends they consider it busy so you are made to park about 3 km from the beach and then get a sawngthew, this is 30baht for Thais, but they quite happily accept that if you say you are a Thai you will get the Thai price.

As you can see from this picture their idea of busy is probably a bit differant to our idea of busy.

Yep they have canoes for rent.

The beach here is actually quite nice compared to Jomtien or other local beaches, plus they aint got people pestering you all the time to buy junk from them, They also have 2 massage huts, these were quite open and everybody could see in so I assume it is for ordinary massage.

They had a live band just outside the restaurant, they play saturdays sundays and tuesdays, all 60s and 70 stuff.

Also most importantly they had a beach bar, 45baht for a can of heiniken aint too bad.

Onto the food, well for a change my son had the Tom Yum Krung, I believe this forum must have more poxy pictures of tom yum krung on it than any other web site in the poxy world, I wonder if www.tomyumkrung.com has been registered yet?

It came with 4 great big prawns that had to be deheaded and legged.

As I can't eat spicey Thai food as a first meal I went for the sweet and sour prawns, this was actually very good.

Luckily they only had to have the tails taken off

I really don't know what this meal was that my galfriend had, some sort of cabbage soup with some dodgy looking meatballs and stuff, probably entrails of some animal.

The whole lot came to a massive 290baht, it really isn't worth making Thai food at home with restaurants as cheap as this.

Anyway when we was driving round the naval base I got a bit lost, we came to a no entry point and we could see the sea, so there we parked and decided to walk to the beach, hell we didn't need a sawngthew, it was only about 1 km away.

You have to admit the beach doesn't look very nice, and this was after I had been assured that it was very nice, I was quite disappointed, also the guns pointing at you did not really make for a relaxing afternoon, so I took some pics and then we found the proper beach.

Here are the big guns, well some of them, no idea where they kept the ammo though.

They also had what I can only think of as "attack rowing boats", not sure how effective in a war they would be against modern stuff.

Maybe they just use them to go fishing in?

I guess that's the pride of the thai navy beside HMS Chakri Naruebet.

Nice report DD , have heard about this location from other folks who say the beach is quite nice when conditions permit.

Heading over there today and will report back.
