After Christmas trip. Chantaburi and Koh Kut.

With Covid this was our first trip out of Bangkok in 21 months. Just a night in Chantaburi and 3 on Koh Kut. Koh Kut turned out to be a true gem, just a lovely island that wants to remain undeveloped to preserve it beauty and nature. No cars on the island, just small motorscooters and songthaews for public transport.

Nice balcony and view from the hotel in Chantaburi, really only saw the huge Catholic church and the gem center where the wife had a good time.

The early off to Koh Kut, its only an hours drive to the ferry in Trat. The bungalow and grounds. Old family run place that has kept building to a minimum. Could have easily had three times as many rooms.

    First of 3 brilliant sunsets.

Up early to tour the island on our trusty Honda Click.

These beaches were all right close to the bungalows or within a few K.

Klong Chao waterfall was quite nice as well.

I will add more later. Was simply a great getaway. Driving back we made it home in 5 hours, even stopping for lunch and petrol and bathroom break.

Do you know if there's a transport system in place from U-Tapao airport, such as minivan direct to pier with a waiting ferry?

^^You'd be better off flying into Trat wouldn't you? Rayong to Trat is no half hour joy-ride.

Yup, exactly but Trat is not a cheap place to fly to. Boonsiri Ferry is who you might check for connections and the such.

This 500 year old tree out in the jungle was "fun to get to". Damn big reminded me of redwoods in a sense, just the majesty of it.

    How busy was the island/resort?

Allegedly there is a BKK-Koh Mai flightto the adjacent island airport.

"Soneva Kiri operates two separate eight-seater Grand Caravan Aircraft to and from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International
Airport. The transfer time takes approximately 90 minutes from Bangkok (BKK) to Koh Mai Si (MSI), Soneva Kiri’s Airport Island.

Upon landing at Koh Mai Si, you will be escorted to the waiting speedboat, for a 5 minute speedboat ride to Soneva Kiri.

First and last flight arrival times to Soneva Kiri:
    07:30 - 17:10
First and last flight departure times from Soneva Kiri:07:50 - 17:30

    TRANSFER OPTIONS

    Soneva Kiri transfer from Bangkok

    PriceDurations

Round trip USD 650 per person 75 minutes
    One way Private Plane Charter
    USD 5,000"

^ It was filling up as we left on the 30th. Boats were packed with people heading over as well. A full island this year. Oh Oh please dont post up private super luxury resorts that have no relevance to my thread. The closest any of us will get to the Soneva Kiri is the gate we found. At 45,000 to 55,000 baht a night there wont be too many TD'ers there.

The airport serves Koh Kut/Koh Kood, different spelling.

There are also ferries from Laem Ngop and Kho Mak

No it does not it serves the Soneva Kiri hotel only. Please stop with the googling. The ferry to Ko Kut leaves from Laem Sok pier not Laem Ngop.

    Nice one AO.

I enjoyed a couple of nights on Koh Kood too. Always meant to try the neighbouring Koh Mak with its horizontal coconut tree, next time I was on Koh Chang...

    Maybe next year.

Way bigger, mountainous, and a population that does not want to sell it out. Remarkable actually.
