Would You Ever Live in Chumphon?

I realize it is off the beaten tourist path, but it looks like miles of unspoilt and quiet beaches around there. Chumphon is also a jumping off point to places like Koh Phangan/Koh Samui.

Anyone been to the place and like to share? I have been offered a job in the town. I just don't know how bored silly I would be.

    Thanks

My family and I like Chumphon.
Whenever we head north, we stay there one night.
I could live there. For a while.
I'm sure it would get boring after a bit but would be fun exploring the beaches, jungles, restaurants, bars, etc.
Haven't seen a lot of expats around but the locals seem friendly.

I lived just out of town in Lang suan for a couple of years. Not a lot going on in town but it is close to beaches and easy access to the islands. It's also only a sleeper train ride away to BKK.

We would head to the beach after work to eat and drink as the sun went down.

It got a bit claustrophobic when the girl from the local KFC I went to quite regularly turned up on my doorstep one day.
I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

Yup, was considering retiring to down there a few years. the issues of schooling, and getting bored after a few years meant it was a no.

Great place to have a holiday home for one or two months a year though.

    Withnall lived down there.

It would have been a sleepy town if that lunatic wasn't part of the community

The beaches there weren't bad or great either, but quiet.
You will be a 5 and a half hour drive from Samui and about the same distance North to Hua Hin.

You should be able to get a bit of cock on the beach at Koh Tao though

Looks as you're procuring a little research/background check for your next long-term move to Thailand, PB.
As you did touch upon this possibility, recently, on another venue.

Almost impossible to receive meaningful advice, as every 25-50 individuals will have their own personal spin and insight - be it pro/con, praising/harsh - which may have little bearing as to how you personally wish to get on anywhere. In this case, Chumphon Province.

It might fit your needs - Farang Ghetto to a degree, yet isolated enough to do the trick.
Remembering that boredom [per se] is an invented and self-induced ideal, which has less to do with one's living environment.

Already securing a teaching position is a plus - keeps ya busy and creates a climate in which to integrate easier.
....and if you don't find Chumphon and the immediate region satisfactory, you can always move on.
All about the experience and what we do it.

    Best to ya.

Thank you kindly, folks! I'll have to see what happens, in the New Year atm! Nothing is 100% right now, I was just wondering what experience of the place you guys may have had. I'll know more as time goes on. I may have more questions later on .

A few years ago, I was so close to going to work in BKK, but bailed out as I was leaving China, not healthy just getting over some health problems due to pneumonia and torn miniscus in the knee. Then I realized that clean air and being home seeing family was important, but now I feel like travelling again fulfilling what I wanted to do minus the big city pollution/chaos. Choices eventually have to be made. Cheers!

So, did you invite her in and show her your chicken nuggets? Did she appreciate your homemade gravy?

^^ Thanks, Mandy. I'll see what develops, as I need to talk to the school in December.

^Good on you. I just wonder if going to a place where not much English is spoken, I'd be able to get by with little Thai? I know I did it when I lived in a village in South Korea in butt fuck nowhere, I survived. I also had a few foreigners there with me.

The best way to learn a language and the culture is to immerse oneself, so I should survive.

Sounds like a reasonable place to work and live for a while.
All depends on how long you want to commit to living there.

^Well that is a good question, so as I said I have lots to think about.
I had to get a car as it is my second winter being here without and need it for my job as well, so .... i'll have to figure it all out.

Would have been better off getting a clunker while you sorted shit out than going into debt and tying yourself down for however many years.

Would've, should've, could've... not a good way to live, but I do realize I may have to stay put for awhile longer, to pay some off and then maybe eventually sell it.
