just learning this gig ( doing photos ) so i'll give it a crack.

    ok,

koh tao is a small island 21 sq klm, situated in the gulf of thailand.
its 78 klm from chumphon on the main land and 47 klm from the nearest island which is koh phan-gan.

the island is famous for diving, partying and drop dead gorgeous young backpackers who love to get there fun bags out at every oppertunity.

sounds great dont it, but its also turning into a family location where people can bring there kiddys for some snorkling and fun.

my self and 2 partners started the second dive operation in 1989 called "ban's diving centre and today there are approx 46 shops operating, so it gives you an idea on how this island has developed. i sold out after 7 years as things where getting to big and serious with the large operations moving in.

i continue to go back every year, have tracked its development from the get go and many of the locals who had nothing are now millionairs running massive tourist operations.

anyway it is still the most traveller friendly island in the gulf, as samui is fuked up and koh phan-gan is getting there, especially with had rinn destroyed by the full mooning fire twirling israili twats.

koh tao still has secluded bays left where one can stay in a beach hut in a stunning location but one must get off there arse and get around.

im new at posting photos and still learning, so bare with me as ive got some crackers. to show the punting public.

    cheers.

Where exactly? I was there last month, went to two beaches, and they both sucked. See my beach thread for pics and details. I'd consider going back if there were secluded bays that were as good as Koh Phangan (and I'm not talking about shitty Haad Rin).

Very nice island, and surprisingly good nightlife. Ban's diving, which you mentioned, is now the biggest dive operation the island, well in the top 2 anyway.

yes i did read your post and noted what you said about tong nai pann.

i lived there in 1988 before i headed over to koh tao and i must say it was the best time of my life. you can imagine that beautiful bay with fuk all tourists, only a few bungalows and at that time there was only 5.

the road over the mountain was tragic, only a few back packers fronted up and had many occasions where it was just me and the locals.

i got a shit load of hard copy photos and one day ill get a scanner and do a thread on that bay in 1988. unbelievable beauty of tong nai pann with no punters around.

    anyway back to koh tao.

sairee and cholok bann kao beach are all but touristed out now.

there are some awesome bays at the back of the island that are secluded , only have a few bungalows and are stunning. all on the east coast.

    # 1 = hin wong bay . fan bungalows with dunny for 500 baht over looking the bay. no beach thou.

great snorkling and protected against the prevailing winds in season. much like looking up at the mountain of tong nai pann when one is in the water.

no resorts here and very low key place, only 2 bungalow operations.

    # 2 = ao leuk and sai daeng bays. stunning beauty, beautiful water, good snorking both located on a small bays with awesome beach. upmarket or low key accomodation available. hard to get to because of the mountain so better to arrange pick up at the pier same for hin wong.

google these places and have a gander.

that photo shows nangyuan island approx 1klm of koh tao, its privately owned and very exclusive with bungalows and prices to match.

absolute stunner of a place and you can do a day trip there but must pay a 100 baht entrance fee.

very popular with day trippers, and many diving company's bring divers here. good snorkling and cracker enviroment on a nice day.

many habitated with honey mooners on a shag fest and scanky back packers aint welcome unless one is prepared to shell out big coin for accomodation and meals.

google it up and have a look see.

yes, i was the original partner and split from him to start up " master divers " with my canadian partner.

ban had nothing and we put up the start up capital and his gig was being the thai partner.

he got very succesfull and became an extremely wealthy man but unfortunatly the power went to his head.

he pissed of the wrong punters and the thai mafia did the rest.
his wife and her sister are now proud owners of a multi million dollar operation and he's still in the freezer waiting to be cremated.

they wont burn him intill they catch the shooter and its been 6 years now.
