Just got back from a visit with Angus and his Samui Reef View Resort. The guy built it with his own hands and it is just a lovely little resort with a salt water pool. He had a cold coke for me when I arrived and we shot the shit for a few hours. He took me on a property tour and I got a few shots with which to shamelessly give the resort a plug.

Reception, restaurant and pool hall along with motorbike parking. He can arrange a motorbike for you in 10 minutes I saw him do it.

A shot from his apartment high up on the property, great view of the ocean and the pool

The pool and the bungalows arrange around it.

I then set off to get some shots of the Reggae Bar which had just opened when I left 25 years ago. Its now huge, two big venues on both sides of the road, plus a restaurant and gift shop.
The biggest of the two buildings this one is on the far side of the road.

This is the older of the two buildings if I recall right, it is on the beach side of the road.

Then the wind died and it got very hot, so I came back to the resort for an afternoon swim. Now so shoo away some fat Europeans and get a lounger.

I was last there 7 years ago. Stayed at a place called Chaweng Garden Beach Resort (I think). Nice wooden bungalows on stilts, across the road from Burger King and the Islander. Supposedly it's been all poshed up now and costs twice the price.

Did my knee in going up the stairs to my room the first night (it was St. Patricks!!), but not badly.

I almost forgot the classic picture of Reggae Pub, both the guitar from hard rock, and the globe from the now defunct Planet Hollywood.

Time sure does fly when you are relaxing and having fun. Tonight will be the last night. I was sitting at the edge of the infinity pool when something caught my eye.
Seems the evening will start out quite nice.

I will visit friends in Mae Nam and Bo Phut tomorrow morning, and then sadly at 3pm leave for Bangkok.

The last sunrise on the trip, early after a cocktail party, only me and the beach boy are up.

Ohhh,I remember that place when it was still a hut, dancing on the sand, sitting on coconut stumbs. Great and bad memories. There was also heroin going arround that time. I remember a "beautiful" thai girl whipping out the needle in my hut...I quickly looked for another place to sleep. Wonder what became of her.

Does anyone have pictures of the old RP ?

e Lets finish the thread off. Just a few photos of the complimentary cocktail party held quite literally on the beach.

    shaking up the cocktails.

The happy guests. The booze was Bacardi rum, each cocktail also had a shot of 151.

Just the perfect time and venue for cocktails.

The next morning 6am on the beach front. All were asleep.

These front bungalows are really something special as they were 25 years ago, the same big bungalow on the far front, now it has its own pool.

The results of 25 years of change, The same front bungalows circa 1990
