Hard to pick a favourite, but two I've always liked are at Songkhla:

    And Ao Manao in Prachuap:

    Hey Mate

Well just so you know the west side islands are now coming in to their rainy season (it is usual that it only rains for a few hours a day and some days not at all), however the east coast is coming in to high season so probably a safer bet. I live on Koh Tao and can say that there are some fantastic beaches here, some of which are on the very secluded east side. It is perfect for relaxing with plenty of opportunities to party if you feel like it.

The atmosphere of Koh Tao may be better suited for the “oldies” there is little sex tourism, and as Koh Tao attracts mostly scuba divers and people looking to enjoy health and adventure activities it is not as much of a party island as its neighbouring islands of Koh Phan Ngan and Koh Samui.

It is also not so far a trip, if you catch a bus or train from Bangkok to Chumpon (a couple of hundred kilometers closer than Surat Thani you can the hop on the ferry that goes first to Koh Tao and then on to the other islands.

If that is too far I hear that Hua Hin is a very popular spot for Thai tourists including the royal family.

check out here for some nice beaches on kohtao.asia website

    ^^Very nice, Benbaa.

^I went to Koh Tao to get my PADI license. I stayed a night at Mae Haad and a week on Sairee Beach. I had the opportunity to scuba at all the great points around the island.

A few pics from Koh Tao.

Sairee beach is really chilled out and has some great places to eat and drink. The fire twirlers at night put on a good show.

Ao Mae Haad is gorgeous and good for chilling out. Many boats in the water though.

In January of this year, I spent a week at Koh Tao getting my SSI Open Water Cert (myself and one other wanted to do PADI, but the group chose SSI).

Although I liked the laid-back ambiance of the island, I thought Sairee beach was a real shame. Buildings right up to the edge, it was nothing more than an anchorage for all the scuba diving longtails. When the tide was in, there was hardly room to walk on the beach, much less lay out and do beach things.

I think Kata Noi (on Phuket), Koh Phi Phi, and Koh Samet have the best Thai beaches that I've been to (Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Chang). I've heard Krabi is really nice but I have yet to go there.

Natai Beach, Phang Nga is my personal favourite. Only around a half hr from the Phuket Airport, it's a real hidden gem. Beautiful fine sand, unspoiled waters, and amazing beachfront rooms makes it number 1 on my getaway list. The beach is free of vendors and pubs, just a stretch of sand and sea. I stayed there for about a week at Aleenta resort, didnt' want to go home! If a non-touristy, quiet beach is what you're looking for, then definitely check it out!

Some beautiful beaches there, you can do a 4 beach tour and they stop for a nice snorkelling session too in the clear blue waters.

i spent last Xmas down there, beautiful.... Easy to get to KPG from there too.
Yes that area is stunning. The long tail trip out to 4 islands is silly cheap. Just west of AoNang is better beaches.

Just got back from Ko Samet with the lovely lady, and we stayed ad at Vong Duern Resort on Wai Beach - completly empty, supreme peace - not enough power to shag.

Just slept, ate, read books, checked internet, and slept. We would have breakfast at 8am, the retire to the room for a snooze. Arise at noon for lunch, then read book/snooze. Wake up for a stroll and dinner and have a beer and Zzzzzzz.

"Kikiat" as it's called in Thailand!

Edit: for a petite Thai-Chinese gal she could eat thrice what I could....

You can't beat going for a swim about 6 pm on white sands on ko chang just as the suns going down. Pure bliss especially if your not sharing your patch of sea with any Russians, Indians, Arabs, Chinese, Koreans, English, Australians or Yanks
