    Small Sandy Bay Near Pattaya

Hu-Gwang Bay, ever heard of it? Sounds Vietnamese to me, suprisingly it is in Pattaya and today is the first time I have heard it's name, it is down Soi Pratamnak down the bottom of Soi 4, there is a small staircase leading down to it from the road, I went to the beach by going through the Cabbages and Condoms Resort, you may also be able to access the beach from Asia Pattaya Hotel.

More on Cabbages and Condoms here.
    Cabbages and Condoms Resort.

Have to admit it is the smallest bay I have seen in Thailand, maybe 20 people on it in total so hardly packed out, sand was nice and clean but I am always wary of water so close to Pattaya, there were some jellyfish washed up on the beach so things can live in the sea water there, although I didn't perform an autopsy on the jellyfish.

Very few deck chairs so they aren't expecting a big rush.

That beach don't look so bad, shame there was no blue skies today though.

If your looking for a bigger slightly busier beach then walk this way, ie facing the sea turn left, the next beach along is a bit busier and bigger, obviously not on par with Jomtien Beach in that respect though. The Next Beach (Pattaya Beach, Pratumnak Road Soi 5 and 6).

No poxy Thai touts to hassle you every few minutes, a beach you can relax on and work on your sun-tan.

Even got a little bar on the beach, life can't get any better than that

When you get bored of this beach then why not pop along to the next one which is just as deserted, Cosy Beach (Pattaya Cosy Beach).

I went there a few years back, near the Asia hotel/Tsunami bar as named then.
Had to walk through a puddle through those steps you mentioned, through a bar and onto the beach.
Next year a mate of mine was bitten by a snake at the bottom of those steps and after Thai hospitals let him go he had to return to London for treatment, his leg was a balloon.
Nice area though, just rattle and shout that you are coming to let the locals know to fuck off out the way.

No, Cosy beach is real near the Royal cliff hotel, yes also down steep steps but this other one that DD talks about is from there on the way to Jomtien.

Nice small beach, easy parking for a car too. Can have foot massage and watch the waves.

Cabbages & Condoms (aka Birds & Bees Resort ) at Hu - Kwang is my preferred destination in Pattaya whenever the need for peace and quiet hits the top of the agenda although the deterioration in the quality of the restaurant food there is a worry - they have dumbed down the Thainess to the point it has become ersatz slop only fit for undiscerning Russians. Nevertheless, breakfast is invariably good in comparison.

The beach by its frontage is effectively their exclusive domain since the loungers are for the hotel's clients use only or those who pay the daily rate. It's always kept clean and tidy by the staff and the water " seems " cleaner than Pattaya Bay. In all my times there I have never detected the tell tale stench of effluent trickling into the bay. One doesn't need to actually go to the bar for sustenance since the staff quickly attend to one's needs, wherever your lounger is positioned, with a slight wave of the hand.

The demarcation between the hoi polloi of the Asia clientele and we more discriminating visitors works well and most of the packaged dross keep to their end of the bay.

The absence of itinerant scum peddling their crap is worth the cost of the hotel alone. The hotel does get some Russian patronage but these seem to be from the higher end of their society in that they don't attempt to eat the entire breakfast buffet or take it away clandestinely for a later lunch.

In all the years I went on holidays to Jomtien I never, never was game enough to enter the water there - even when the beach "seemed" to be relatively clean.
For swimming pleasure I make the effort to go over to Koh Larn, where the water quality "seems" to be a lot better......
However, lately I noticed that the boys who put-up the Beach Umbrellas in the mornings are totally indifferent to any sorth of trash that may float in the water - or is swept-up onto the beach at high-tide. Some Tourists have actually undertaken to remove some rubbish themselves.....
The Locals are trying hard to "kill" the golden Goose by ignoring the rubbish in the water - or on their beaches.
