Budget accomodation in Chiang Rai

Boon Bundan guesthouse is run by a Christian Thai family, bibles are complimentary in every room, late night 'guests' tolerated none the less. It's located in a Soi off YedRod rd., near the Chinese temple.

It is the best deal in budget accomodation, prices have just gone up , starting from 170bt for a fan room with cold water, the top bracket is 450bt for aircon, hot water, TV and mini-fridge.

I opted for the 200bt room with solar-powered hot water:

There even is a phone to order drinks from reception.
It's not spotless, but acceptable for the price.
The bathrooms have Western style toilets:

I stayed there earlier this year.
The aircon room I had was not as nice as yours .
I didn't like the dirty bed linen and the crumbling furniture, I wouldn't stay there again.

I now use the Moon & Sun hotel.
Brand new and spotlessly run. Sorry no website.
500 baht for all mod cons and a fourposter bed, including breakfast.

The accomodation in the Boon Bundan varies a lot in quality, best check the room before signing in.

My missus is much pickier than myself, but had nothing to moan about when we stayed in one of their upper range rooms with TV and air.

The 500 baht room is the best but you will have to book if it's a W/E

I think they are upgrading all the rooms, there was a bit of building work going on when I was there.
I probably got the oldest, crappiest room they had.
We had booked five rooms and as I wasn't paying it was a bit difficult to complain.

They have put the prices up again , its now 220 Baht for the cheapest room

If you have a car this is perfect close to Makro and the New Mall , There is 7-11 about 400m away but few night time places in walking distance bar teh food court MK Fuji donut type places inMall until 9pm, but as you will have a car many choices in Bandon Uni area and 5 miles Soouth in the city centre.
They also have a branch near Central Mall I have never tried

Simple spotlessly clean Aircpon rooms , fridge free "breakfast 3-in One Liptons Teabags and cookies"

Safe secure parking 5m from airport so ideal for early /laye flights

Downsides Checkin starts at 2pm no flexibility checkout

Plus great views from 3-8the floor of teh hills , good nets and Night curtains

Excellent fridge TV shower, good bedside flex lamps and swicthes

The free wifi pretty slow so I tether to my phone

Walk in usually a tad under 800 , I think its dynamic pricing and often full weekends

I usually book via agoda which with members discounts /rates I have paid from 411 to 650 inc taxes as recently as June.
They ask for a 300 cash deposit in case you planned t take the bed or shower home as a souvenir

My verdict for teh price 9/10 only moans wifi and late check in, a spotless motel with good quality sheets towels and really good quality pillows seldom found in budget places.

You really have to spend a lot more in C Rai for better like Mantrini , Golden or the upscale resorts like the Meridien.

For bs travlellers there are cheap hostels around the old downtown bus station and as others mention in Jed Yod bar street, Bamn Bua, orchid , Jansom etc

In same are close to night market 1000-2000 are Wiang with aPool and the rather faded Wangcome which has free private car park

Of course for select member just 120km away there is the cocktail hour Absinthe alley after which a free tent under the stars or upgrade into the rooms is negotiable , Chez Johnny , knock 3 times and ask fro Ms Rubba
