I have to spend a couple of nights In Singers next week. (On my own buck). Before the internet came along I would just show up at the Hotel Counter in arrivals and get a real good "last minute" deal on a room. Is this still an option or is the web the way to go?

My old regular was the Albert Court TP. It's not badly priced for Singapore, and I like the location- you can generally get a taxi (which can be a real bastard in Sing), and the local area is pleasant for a laid back drink- but not far to Boat Quay & Orchard Rd. Kinda between Orchard rd & CBD, across the main road from little India.

I just came back from Singapore Wednesday and the place is packed, there are several big meetings going on as well as other events which carry through all next week and hotel rooms are in short supply except for big dollar rooms and more along the lines of shortime rooms, low end Hotel 81 locations etc. Would suggest you search online first wotif or asia rooms etc to make sure you dont end up in a bed bug hotel.

I'd go for Hotel 81 if you're on a budget.

stayed decently at Budget One Hotel Lorong 18 Geylang , 48 SGD (58 in weekends) , just take MRT and step down at EW9 Aljunied , a five minute walk budget one hotel Singapore - Cerca con Google

I stayed at Hotel 81 in Geyland and booked it through Agoda before I went. It was clean and adequate in every way. Not fancy, but not ugly either. If you want to sample the local night life, Geyland seems like a good place to be.

Thanks for all the responses, it is only going to be one night now. Got a deal through a friend at the York Hotel.....
