    What is a condo?

I've been considering buying a condo in Thailand and wanted to know what is legally considered a condo and if there is anything I should look out for. Does a condo have to be a part of a MDU (multiple dwelling unit) or could you consider a two story home with the upper portion sold a condo? I'm looking for advantages and disadvantages to properties.

I always thought a condo was a somewhat self-contained over-sized apartment. Often, in Thailand, a condo winds up being a room a slight bit larger than a hotel room, with no kitchen - not even a little sink outside the bathroom. Plus, a Thai condo doesn't have to have any added space or rooms. If the Thais made a Swiss army knife, it would have one medium sized blade and maybe the plastic tooth pick, that's it.

I always thought a condo was where the individual units were owned by individual people, as opposed to an apartment where the whole building is owned by one person or company and rented out.

If you can legally buy the top portion and the building remains more than 50% Thai owned then I would have thought it could be considered a condo, but who knows in this crazy country.

I suspect if you consulted three different Thai lawyers you would get three different answers.
Scotland is wet and dreary. Don't let anybody tell you different. Even the hills are mostly just big mounds, not proper mountains like the Alps or the Rockies. People will tell you it's all romantic and rugged but I've yet to see the evidence. Even when it's nice it's covered in a cloud of these bastard little insects called midges so you have to stay inside anyway. Plus it's ful of Scots. Case rested
