    How's Qantas as an Airline?

Has anyone flown with Qantas? Any experiences good or bad? Considering my employer is playing my flight to Australia, I see I can get a decent price with them.

    Cheers

Never lost a passenger, well in an air accident that is.

I rarely fly with Qantas because other airlines have better in-flight service but some of my friends would never fly another airline.

There's a good chance that they will get you too your final destination so give em a try and then post a rating thread!

They are fine, have got some stick in recent years as they outsourced maintnance, but that is not uncomman in the industry.

^Outsourced maitenance doesn't sound too promising. I wouldn't want the tire to fall off. I remember when I was boarding a flight on Thai Airline, and we were told at the last second that they had to change the front tire. The flight was delayed for over an hour. Rather safe than sorry though.

    Have you lived there before?

    --
I'm not worried, KW. Just inquiring, as I have a few choices on what airline to fly with. Cathay Pacific or Qantas.

The problem is, I will have a six hour layover in Tokyo, before I board Qantas. That seems like a loooong layover time.

    Thanks for the link, Klongtoey.

If I make it in one piece or I don't get lost along the way, I'll post a rating thread, LT.

    Old joke but............................
Two infrequent flyer's sitting at the bar at BKK airport - Barry & Larry
One says to the other let's guess which airline these flight attendants are from as they walk pass
First crew... tall blonde , marching in step heads held high
Barry said...Bet they are from that German airline, so the question was asked answered -
    Yes vee are Lufthansa crew

Next was a harem of veiled 6ft somethin' movie stars
Larry - Bet they are from Emirates - Q&A
No, sorry we are from Qatar Airlines but thank-you for asking

Next was group dressed in black, miserable, looking like they were going to a funeral
    Barry asked the question:
Answer came back: what fucking business is it of yours....
AHHH said Barry, must be QANTAS

Lots of times. Business is good, food and wine excellent. Cattle is cattle.

Service has probably deteriorated over the last few years but I still prefer them to BA.

Perhaps 10 years ago. Cathay shines as Quantas has become a shell of it's former self.

Yep, I worked in their freight department (QANTAS Cargo in those days) for 12 years back in the days before the amalgamation with Australian Airlines.

They used to be very good to fly with (voted best airline in the world by business passengers for several years in a row in the 80s) and had a safety record second to none.

Since the amalgamation and after several cost-cutting measures, including offshore maintenance, things seem to have gone downhill. According to my ex-workmates, it's not such a pleasant place to work either.

Complaints about the in-flight service were few when I worked there. Having flown with them many, many times myself, I can honestly say that they were as good as any other airline out there with the possible exception of my favourite, Singapore Airlines. Most complaints heard were concerning the obvious sexual orientation of the male cabin crew.

I haven't actually flown with QANTAS for the last 18 years. The only airlines I've flown are Thai (domestic), Singapore Airlines and Air Asia, the latter only once and never again (with family). Unfortunately, many friends have and it seems the service has gone downhill quite a bit. Having said that, there are very few airlines these days that haven't.

By the way, the name is actually Q.A.N.T.A.S. - Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Services.

Absolutely right, and they've just about pulled out of the Territory completely.

I have flown on BA,QANTAS,Iberia and American Airlines they are all part of the One World conglomeration of airlines.
The company I work for cancelled the contract that we had with group, because they were getting lots of complaints from Project Managers and Engineers and Planners concerning the poor quality of service. That was five years ago.We now fly Emirates or Etihad in Far and Middle East and Singapore Airlines when flights to destination are available.
Wont be going back to the One World Group anytime soon I hope.

^I was disappointed with AA.. when I first flew to Korea, I came on AA, and the day before they stopped serving free alcohol on the flight. If only they'd have told me when I booked the flight.

Thanks everyone. You guys are so funny and informative..hehe.

Jogear, I really had no idea what Qantas stood for. I learned something new today.

I still haven't booked the ticket, as I'm still waiting on my school for the dates.

Thaipom, It looks like Cathay Pacific is more expensive, and I have a limit on how much I can pay for a ticket, according to my contract. It looks like it may be Qantass after all.
