    Flying into the UK

The missus and I are off to the UK next month.

All the flights to either newcastle or edinburgh are terrible. There is one on Emirates that is ok, but it only has 1:45 minutes wait time and last time I took that plane I had to run onto the plane as the doors were closing on the second leg of the flight.

If we fly via heathrow, which I loathe to do but it might be a necessary evil. There are several flights that fly up to edinburgh and newcastle.

If we change carriers or stay with the same carriier does my wife have to go through Heathrow immigration or will she stay international airside and go through Edinburgh or Newcastle.

I would really rather she didn't have to go through the twats at Heathrow. THe ones at Edinburgh and Newcastle are a lot nicer and it's a lot less busy.

Just an educated guess, but I believe she would be asked to take her immigration/customs duties at Heathrow. As you are flying in from a foreign point {and then making domestic connections}, your intitial arrival point into the country would be Heathrow, therefore all foreign arrivals would be checked in then. Chances are, that if your initial arrival point would be Edinburgh from a foreign point with a London domestic add-on, you would be asked to clear immigration/customs first {in Edinburgh}. Good luck....have a nice holiday squirrel.

^ This is what I can't remember at all.

One of those jet setter types might remember for me here.

Actually, I believe this is universal. Your initial arrival point acts as the balice for clearance. I'm curious as well {regarding U.K. policies and laws}, I hope some of the old timers post in with comments and suggestions.

We've always flown in via Dubai or Amsterdam, but the flights are a bit shitty this time around. So never had to worry about where she checks in.

Newcastle last year there was a queue of ten people going through passport control, woman had a quick chat with us together and then wished us a nice trip. No hassles, friendly and fast, and kept us together as a couple which takes stress of the missus and she can answer questions without worrying.

Emirates fly to Glasgow via Dubai - I usually have about 3 hours to wait in Dubai.

China Airlines (Taiwanese) non stop BKK to Amsterdam and KLM City Hopper to Newcastle - no hassles at Newcastle re customs and/or immigration.
I have done the trip a couple of times - once with a non Brit companion - and she did it by herself only last week.

Pretty sure you'll have to go thro' immigration at Heathrow.

Pity you didn't fly Emirates to Glasgow, the airport is very nice and immigration is no hassle. Airport bus to Queen St train station takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Train to Edinburgh Waverly 45 minutes. I took the trip in the opposite direction in December. Left the house in Edinburgh at 7:30 am and was at the check in desk at Glasgow airport at 09:30am.

Last time I enquired the fare Ams - Edinburgh was more than the fare from BKK to Ams.

might well go through Glasgow again.

Just changed the date and got a better flight to Newcastle on Emirates with the 2:45 transfer which is ok.

Got to find out if the agent in Bangkok is cheaper than online.

Never thought about taking the train from Glasgow to Edinburgh. That woould make it easier for my folks to get us, not much easier but a bit.
Serves them right for having a house in the arse end of nowhere.

Anybody got a decent travel agents in bangkoks number?

The missus in her wisdom never saved the regular agents phone number and has lost her card. I want to get flights booked today rather than fannying around another day.

Last year Seoul to Newcastle cost us 500 quid return each flying KLM.

This year they want 750 quid. The plane was crap anyway.

Emirates want $1518 to land at Glasgow or $1618 to land at Newcastle for the two of us.

    Not bad.

No idea if a travel agent can give me a better rate or not though.
