    Four Days in Bali

I have 4 days in Bali early next month. I don't mind spending 2 hours a day on the Beach but cannot hack it all day. Any ideas what there is to see /do to pass the time? I know there books but I would like to get a feel from members. I am not on a backpacker budget and also not arriving in my private G4!!!

    Cheers in advance, TP

Ubud is great for a day. Silversmiths, batik, dance, just the culture. You will have fun.

^ Cheers, that would be great. I am really just going to play tourist and have a few days "out of the system" with the missus.

Ubud is good for more than a day (imo) - taxi will take you there from the beaches, about 300K (I think) and about 2 hours.

stop along the way to shop at stone carving places 100's of them.

Ubud is in the hills. cool and moutain rivers.

Rafting, coffee shops, book shops, art shops., considered cultural, every year they have a quite famous Ubud Writers Festival with writers form around the world converging there.

In Ubud visit the monkey temple and park, careful though, they bite!

In Kuta or better to stay at Legian or Seminyak some nice restos, I reccommend

    Ku Deta
    and Made's Warang

there is nice food beach side dining at jimbaran - little bit of a tourist trap though, every hotel will take you there, or send a driver, but then the shops pay commissions. taxi will wait for you. Still worth it.

there is a big statue being built, worth a look WGK (pronouced as Way-Gay-Kay) i think its called...

Hi Thai Pom, I've seen your thread a couple of times and I can give some recommendations from my visit there in 2000. My god that sounds like so long ago.

What I did was fly into Denpasar - ha ha, you have no choice. Right away I took a taxi to Sanur. I stayed in a great (cheap) place right on the beach for a couple of days.

Then I got a driver to take me to Ubud and spent a few days there. I went to the monkey forest which was really nice. I was lucky in my timing because there was a cremation ceremony just starting. I followed the parade to the park and watched them burn the wooden holders that contain the bodies. It was a great experience. I also saw the monkey dance (is that what it's called?) the Kecak. I highly reccomend this.

After that I went up to Lovina on the north coast. I stayed there for the longest part, about 5 days. There isn't much to do there except chill. The beach has dark sand and it's really hot! You could go into Singaraja for some shopping, the prices are a bit better there.

On the day of my departure, I hired a driver to take me to the two volcanoes, Gunung Batur and Gunung Agung. They're worth a stop each. I hope this helps you.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you (looks like plenty of advice already) anyways here's the reply to the email I sent my mate who just got back.

    Hey hey

Tell him the company I used was MBA.. They have heaps of stuff to do.. They
    have walk up kiosks everywhere.

White water rafting, cycle tours etc

Otherwise hire a cab for the day (dead cheap) and go to Ubud, visit the
monkey temple, elephant park n bird sanctuary (bit of a rip off)

Best advice is to just sort it out when you arrive as there is too much to
    choose from.

    I wanna go back. Now.

    Hope it helps - enjoy!
