    $3400 !!

It depends on the Value of what's being shipped of course . But I'm inclined to go with the people saying not to be sentimental about possessions .
Clothes that you'll never wear in the Thai climate .
Let her shed a little tear and give away all the good , inappropriate stuff ..... and sling the rest .

Some do have that relationship with clothes ....... They all mean something/good memories to "missy" and she should be the one to decide what to bring back with her.

Men are usually more practical, but some items have been found to be unobtainable and possibly more expensive to replace/import later. I wonder what % of JPPR2's container were his clothes, shoes, just personal stuff ......

The ladies here have pointed out some reasons why some items may not last well in the Thai climate. But maybe you have excellent storage facilities at your home in Korat or have an "open to the elements", Thai house.

A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.

No cheap, bu less than a few extra months of maintaining a stateside home and health insurance. We did not qualify for the returning Thai nationals as my wife did not return with me to close out our US life but it did not matter in the end.
sounds like a 20 foot container. Where in the US did you ship from? We are in Florida and I am thinking about bringing some stuff over when we come back , hopefully this spring.

I would have to guess that maybe <1% was clothes and shoes for my wife and I. ( probably 4 suitcases in total). The biggest % was all our hardwood Mahogany and Cherrywood furniture for our living and dining room and bedroom furnishings ( 3 full bedrooms including Mattresses). The rest was all my shop and yard tools, lawn mower, cordless tools, some Toyota truck parts, etc

We just could not see selling all that fine hardwood furniture for pennies on the dollar then come over here and furnish our new home by purchasing marginal quality Ikea/Living Index stuff that falls apart or spend a fortune on Teak or Thai Redwood hardwood furnishings. Same goes for all my shop tools and yard tools. Trying to find what I brought over would be outrageously expensive.

The cargo container option saved us thousands of dollars plus having good well made items here.

But again, everyone has different reasons or plans when moving abroad. This most certainly impacts one's decision. If we were going to live in a condo in BKK I would have sold it all and we would have just brought 4 suitcases of clothes.

All that had and continue to prove their worth. It's hard leaving any behind but my brothers and our kids took them all for their own garages/workshops.
