    Thai Airlines reduced services

    Received this email recently ...

Flight Schedule Adjustments from 28 Oct '18... Due to aircraft maintenance and rotation across the network, we're making some changes to the Australia/Thailand schedules and to other destinations across the network.

If you're booked and ticketed via a travel agent, please contact them for assistance with your booking.
    From this page ... https://www.thaiairways.com/en_AU/ne...schedule.page?

Brisbane/Bangkok schedule will be reduced to 4 flights weekly
Sydney/Bangkok schedule will be reduced to DAILY flights
Melbourne/Bangkok schedule will be reduced to 11 flights weekly
Perth/Bangkok schedule will be maintained DAILY with an aircraft change to A330

Seems inoculatous enough, but if you had booked on a Flight which has been cancelled, you need to make affirmative action to confirm the new allocated date is suitable for your purpose.

Prices have risen considerably and options to travel almost halved.

I was looking at possible travel dates and the below changed within a week.

    Then a week later ...

I'm currently sitting in CNX departure lounge and haven't even been offered a handjob.

Higher price less service. Not a winning marketing slogan.

E560 from Munich in October, admittedly off season, is still pretty good for a non stop flight to Bangkok.

Friends are visiting us at the end of October for a week or so and they got 3 adults and 2 kids return, LHR - Chiang Rai for GBP 3,813. Seems reasonable to me.

I read once that if you go back to an airline website, you often get an increased price. Clear cookies and then go back. Worked for me in the past. Give it a go and see what happens.

Mate, thanks for the offer. I suppose I could send them your info, you know just to make them feel good, but they're adults, well traveled adults at that so I'll probably not.
    Thanks anyway.

A fair, if not somewhat tangential point. The thing is my old mucker, is that when some long lost friends suddenly re-establish contact after many years, and there's an element of urgency to meet up due to the probable demise of at least one of those involved it's really a matter of getting the first/best flight you can, which is what they've done.

They're happy. I'm very happy. They can afford it with out any stress and we look forward to a major reunion in CR at the end of October for a week or two.

    All good.

Wasn't it just recently that they were proposing a complete business manner overhaul as to be competitive within the market, in which they haven't been for some time.
It's been a steep downward slope for quite a while, attempting to revive their shabby service and extremely high prices.

Thai business practices within the international schemes.

IME Thai Airways have always been competitive on long haul flights to and from Heathrow against EVA and British Airways and are the only airline out of the 3 which offer night flights on both legs. In all my flights to Heathrow Ive never flown with BA, and used EVA just the once.

They have their own budget airline- Thai Smile- to compete with Air Asia too which flies from Swampy and not the shit hole that is Don Mueang.

^^ Agreed. Thai have been my airline of choice for many years now when travelling from Europe. The additional benefit of Thai smile allowing our 40 Kg baggage allowance on their flights when taken within 24hrs of the international flight helps.

Thai reduced their Munich service to 4 days a week for a while a few years ago. It meant increased cost for a while but it soon went back to a flight a day. Christmas is also a peak period so price hikes are to be expected and subject to change. It's just the way the modern world works. I can still fly cheaper to Bangkok on Thai than to Birmingham UK on Lufthansa most of the time.
