    Charity recommendation.

Hopefully someone has done the leg work on this before and can offer some insights.

Looking for somewhere to send a few spare dollars on a regular basis. Looking to avoid the Cambo orphanage scams, religious/political agenda groups, or those charities that spend more on advertising than on the people they are helping. Not interested in receiving letters or photos or other banality, just want to know to know the money is going somewhere to help someone.

    Preferably in the SEA region.

    Recommendations?
Some people think it don't, but it be.

I've donated at the Phaha Thai Babies Home several times.

Meaning I bought the gear, rocked up and passed it over the counter.
    Issued with a receipt.

Legit place ... never seen a Westerner there.

Usually get the BTS to Mo Chit, opposite the week-end markets then mini-van it out, then motorcycle the last part of the journey.

    Cash is accepted ... website

There are a multitude of orphanages in that area.

Have been to the one below and equally as good ...

Ask the motorcycle guy to drive you round the larger compound and you can read in English what each one specialises in and choose for yourself.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Thanks for putting my old thread on We Train up Blue. Its a great place to give and can actually see it being put to use.

We never give money just items we dont use anymore. All the kids clothes they outgrow. Bicycles, old computers and TV's, school books, books, they are grateful for anything.

    Excellent idea and no corruption.

Am I tthe only to notice less barefoot monks, a few lads pass by here as we a have a mad monk curing gayness who packs em in !

Of course donating to any religeous org may depend on your view of that faith or any.

On my rare jaunts to the big city always amused to see monks smoking or on the latest iPhone , no doubt there's a nirvan app I'm not up to speed with.

Of course the red garbed forest monks are the real deal who live in simple discomfort

Yet, I'm sure they don't turn down regular cash donations.
Was decent of Blue to recall your old thread - seem to be a worthy local philanthropic cause without the political/bureaucratic angle.

    Cheers.

I think I've been there quite a few years ago with a Harley biker group. Everyone was asked to donate bags of rice, which they did, but I took a shit load of toys.

Kids don't really appreciate rice on the table, but give them toys and it's like xmas to them and something they'll remember always.

    I stay clear off charities.

I like to find the elderly?children, with no family or family who don't take her of parents, and buiy them little things or take them on trips.

Just for them to find a little happiness for a short time and see them know there not alone,is enough for me.

When my wife's aunty said she didn't want to die like a soi dog, made me have a different outlook.

The "Make Harry Barracuda Happy People Oh yes" fund is always seeking donations.

Just make cheques payable to a Mr. "C. Ash".

yeah the salvo,s are ok very non judge mental and just seem to get on with it without all the god bothering stuff, they used to have a habit of turning up at pubs in Australia around about closing time, and of course we were all pissed but I never saw anyone refusing to give em a couple of bucks, I think there held in high regard, I always used to give em a bung,

On a run up to Christmas each year we go around our local temple schools and ask them to submit a list of items that would really help them out if we were to choose them for our yearly donation. Obviously we don't give money.

Then we consider what requests are most in need of our donations.

Last year we donated to 3 local temple schools with donations such as a large water tank for clean filtered drinkable water, 'prison style' stainless steel food trays, football kits and goalposts along with balls and vollyball/badminton nets with required rackets and balls etc.

Temple schools are the last chance of an education for many families too poor to put their kids through even a government school.

In the past we have donated computers with special equipment for the blind, to the local blind school. We also secured 2 jobs for the students that progressed the most to work for the company that designs the software.

The kids love it when we all turn up on our big bikes and take them for spins round the car park. Some even put on a show and dance for us to say thank you, and we hand out cookies and treats for them too.
    Lang may yer lum reek...
