New movie hangout is this Phrom Phong cafe /poster gallery by ‘Bad Genius’ director

After opening Mutual Bar two years ago, Bad Genius director Nattawut “Baz” Poonpiriya didn’t wait long to open another place – this time dedicated to something dear to his heart – movies.

Combining a concept store, cafe, gallery-like movie poster section, and photobooth from the Sculpture Bangkok crew, FICS (“Film Inspired Coffee Shop”) feels like a museum made for movie buffs.
As visitors enter, they will be welcomed by the Sculpture x FICS photobooth, which cries out for some staged or impromptu snaps.

On the second floor, patrons can sip Italian espresso made with Caffe Bruno’s northern Thai coffee beans, as well as some on-brand drinks.

The menu of “Director’s Cups” offers crafty, film-inspired drinks. If folks are in the mood for a classic dark comedy, try the orange-infused dark chocolate Clockwork Orange (THB140), or for a twist of rum in your dirty coffee, the Americano Psycho (THB150) beckons.

The Amelie is an iced latte with homemade raspberry jam (THB135) and offers deja vu moments for fans of the film, while the warm, butterfly pea flower-infused milk with burnt cinnamon, Blue Is The Warmest Colour (THB125), lives up to its name.

The place also has a collection of souvenirs inspired by films and their directors. Think a “Quentin’s Cappuccino” yellow mug and “American Psycho” t-shirts.

In the poster section, dubbed Poster District, FICS keeps film culture alive with a collection of vintage movie posters from around the world, many of which are available for purchase.

As a bonus, FICS is pet-friendly, so you can bring your furry friends with you — even into the photobooth.

Fics is located on Soi Sukhumvit 31 and can be reached by motorbike or taxi from BTS Phrom Phong. The photo booth is open 10am to 5:30pm, the cafe 7:30am to 5:30pm, and the Poster District 10am to 7pm.

for those interested in collecting original movie posters there is a tiny shop in siam square that sells movie posters from old thai movies and also from european and american films, with thai script, some from as far back as the 60s, that have been shown in thailand. the owner has an encyclopedic knowledge of thai cinema and film stars and is very helpful.
