The new British Embassy was constructed on land in the Ploenchit area that once belonged to Phraya Phakdi Noraset, who was commonly known as "Nai Lert.” The land was acquired in exchange for a part of the Legation premises on Charoen Krung Road that bordered the bank of Chao Phraya River. In front is the War Memorial and the Statue of Queen Victoria that was transferred from the previous site of the Legation. Beyond is the Minister's residence officially completed in 1926. In 1947, the British Legation was upgraded in level to become the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Thailand. The current premises were recently transferred in ownership to a private sector in 2018. Once again, the Embassy is in the process of moving to a new site in the near future.
