I don't know how prevalent ghosts are in Western/ Caucasian cultures, but they're common in Asian cultures - both in the Buddhist countries like TH, Laos, Vn and in a Christian country like PH. That's part of the reason why we have house blessings and spirit houses (for Buddhists) and grottos or altars (in PH).
Here in PH, in the cities there's not much belief in ghosts or spirits but in the countryside people still believe in them. The times when I stayed with friends (in their parent's houses) in Visayas (very rural towns), they warned me of ghosts, "mangkukulam" (equivalent to witch) and other supernatural beings.
Before my ancestors were converted to Christianity by the Spaniards, ancient Filipinos were tribal in nature and their religions were animistic. Some people still believe that trees, mountains, etc harbor spirits.
I do believe that there are some things that cannot be explained and have had some weird or supernatural encounters. They were all at my different workplaces and it was either very early morning or late at night (overtime).
BLD, I don't know what's bothering your wife, but does she have experiences of "seeing" ghosts or spirits? Maybe she's seen one/ some, and maybe you need to have your house blessed or exorcised.
I have heard the experience of some girlfriends - they were my "sisters" in an organization. They were 3 or 4 girls sharing a flat. They said that they all felt weird/ bad vibes in that flat. After several weeks of that discomfort, the housemates decided to ask a local priest to go to their house to perform exorcism. They fetched the priest from the church. As they (the girls plus the priest) walked nearer the flat, they all felt very heavy, as if something/ some being was preventing them. Anyway, the priest and the girls did their prayers. Adter that, the feeling in their flat felt slightly better. However, because of the bad vibes they all decided to leave the flat & look for other lodgings. The ladies were in their mid or late 20s at the time.

Another thing that I can think of is early menopause or hormonal imbalance. I don't know if your wife takes contraceptive pills, but many women develop adverse effects from pills and some have stopped taking them.

Wish you & Mrs BLD all the best. Sorry for the long post. I've
