One killed, seven held in drug sting

    THE NATION November 23, 2011 12:31 pm

A suspect was shot dead and seven others arrested during a police raid at a housing estate in Pathum Thani's Klong Luang district early yesterday.

The police unit also confiscated 768,000 tablets of ya ba and 46 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine worth a total of Bt400 million, Drug Suppression Police chief Chaiwat Chotima told the press yesterday.

Police shot dead a man in his 30s, identified only as Ton, and found drugs stashed in a pickup truck. The officers also arrested Ton's alleged accomplices - Worawit Sonchimplee, 26, Sura Munon, 22; Jaturong Homthien, 18; Itthipong Taengphong, 21; Rattanyu Leungchukiat, 19; Narongchai Nimmanee, 34; and Veeradech Thantanod, 31.

On Monday night, the gang moved the drugs from a rented house in Rajapreuk Ville onto a pick-up truck to deliver to a customer in Ayutthaya. The chief of the drug-suppression unit said his team had no choice but to shoot when Ton tried to drive the truck away when police demanded to search the vehicle.

Chaiwat said this raid was launched after his team arrested two suspects and confiscated 96,000 ya ba tablets and 2kg of crystal methamphetamine in an earlier sting operation in Bangkok.

I wonder if drugs were legal, if anyone would be killed or arrested?

Maybe just pay a tax. No graves dug or fires lit.

Certainly very few people would be using nasty drugs like meth which became big only after pretty much eradicating the opium production from the Golden Triangle.
The harder they try to control drugs through draconian government edicts the worse the situation gets.

Meth kills everyday. Look at the grief alcohol brings. You think openly allowing more addictive drugs into the main stream will improve life?

Meth kills everyday. Look at the social cost of alcohol and you and your mupet friend want to open the flood gates on other social goodies.

Wake up and grow up. Even looking at weed, medical trans generational studies show the amount of mental illness in under 21 year olds has increased expedentialy with those who use even this soft drug. recreational drug users are huge burden on the social framework, medical crime, and social services.

Do you thing, but know what you are doing is not going to make the world a better place if we all do it. Think about it.?

The only son of one of my friends developed schizophrenia at age 18/19.
There is little doubt in my mind that marijuana use (and perhaps other drugs) caused it, though of course I can't prove anything. He used to be a great kid, too. Even at 18.

Perhaps there is some middle path between the two extremes of legalization and prohibition ? Especially with Cocaine and Methamphetamine. I've seen what Meth does to people over even a short time, and wouldn't want to encourage use of it.
    Or of Coke either....

Giving up to the demands of drug induced imbeciles does not reflect intelligence, moreso surrender and all it will do is to get more into the main stream of drug users. It is a fight that society must win,I fear for the safety of our youth in years to come.
