Without giving too much credence to the BKK. Posts ongoing efforts to find disaffected sources wherever they can, to suit their attack mode on Ms. Y. and the Govt. they are in the process of demonizing, this is not the first time the Thai Red Cross has popped up.

In previous Posts I mentioned that my sources (getting as bad as The Nation and Post with this 'sources' thing) told me that whatever resources, especially money that goes into the Red Cross, not much comes back out in the way of meaningful services, or whatever they do in crisis situations like this..

I have been told who is heading up the Thai Red Cross, and is worth noting.

Los Angeles' storm drain system is a vast network of underground pipes and open channels that were designed to prevent flooding. Runoff drains from the street, into the gutter, and enters the system through an opening in the curb called a catch basin. Catch basins serve as the neighborhood entry point to the journey into the ocean.
The storm drain system receives no treatment or filtering process and is completely separate from Los Angeles' sewer system.

I agree with Calgary's post about these different "Thai" versions of big International NGOs. People give money to them thinking that because it's the Red Cross (not just Red Cross but whatever) that therefore the money will appear to have come from the hearts and wallets of Thais and others who've given freely. But the way it is presented when the relief is rendered is that everyone should be thankful to those who head any of these organizations. I'm not picking sides on this - Thailand has no "real NGOs" that aren't connected to the Establishment - that includes the Reds as Thaksin would take the credit for any money you give to any of their charities too. Mirror Art Foundation and Sombat come closest to a real modern un-patronized NGO - but the Yellows would call him a Red. I guess it's just TIT..

Democrats present list of priorities for govt

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday ruled out a Cabinet reshuffle, saying the government was too busy tackling the flood crisis.

She said she would wait until the floodwater subsided before considering whether to improve her Cabinet lineup.

The performance of Cabinet members in handling the flood crisis would be taken into account if she changed the Cabinet lineup, she said.

Industry Minister Wannarat Charnnukul said yesterday he was surprised to see press speculation he might be removed from the Cabinet.

He said he had been working hard to support efforts to deal with the flood crisis but not seeking publicity - mostly providing building materials for use to prevent flooding.

"If I have to be removed because my work has not been reported by the media, I'll say I have been working hard all the time," Wannarat said.

Democrat Party leader and opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva agreed yesterday the government should not reshuffle the Cabinet now. It should focus on helping people affected by floods.

Abhisit said the government had caused a lot of confusion by changing the structure of the Flood Relief Operation Centre - and it would be more confused if the Cabinet lineup was changed now.

The Democrats have submitted eight proposals for the government to urgently carry out to help flood victims.

Democrat spokesman Chavanond Intharakomalsut said they were:

1) The government must provide facts about the runoff from the North yet to enter the capital. The people must be informed when their houses will be flooded and how long the floodwater would stay.

2) The government must provide clearcut evacuation plans and local administrations should play a leading role in evacuating people.

3) Police must work hard to protect public assets and property.

4) The government must announce adequate compensation measures for affected people so they will be assured of rehabilitation to resume their lives after the flood water recedes.

5) The government should provide measures to facilitate Bangkok commuters, such as free Skytrain and subway services.

6) The government must provide clearcut moves to control an adequate amount and the price of necessary goods. For example, the government must set up distribution centres in communities to sell consumer goods at cheap prices.

7) The government must set up centres to watch out against epidemics as flood water had started to become polluted.

8) The government should provide career training to evacuees to have jobs after the waters subsides. In particular, it must train people to restore infrastructure and homes, as this work would be much needed.

Here we are readying the NEXT delivery of flood relief supplies to BKK.

Our third truck convoy.

Delays have been necessitated due to “too much stuff”

When word got out that we were contemplating another flood relief supply trip to Bangkok, Red Shirts from several communities asked us to delay for a day or so, as they were gathering more stuff.

We also had to solve the problem of not having large enough trucks.

Our activity mirrors that of other Red Shirt groups all over Thailand.

But do you Farangs who are enslaved to the domestic media know that?

I am still smarting about a derogatory sub-title used in the torrent of anti-Govt. and anti-Ms. Y media articles recently, stating something to the effect, “Reds take advantage”

What assholes.

It is patently clear to those involved – not armchair consumers of the Domestic Media, and those Farangs being diddled by that other yellow discussion Board – that the Red Shirts across Thailand have done more than anyone, collecting and delivering stuff to BKK. during this crisis.

A distant second in this regard, are the Governors who ordered the mayors in their area to hit up their villages for money.

Not the military – they are doing the jobs they have been assigned by The State, using State resources. They are not some do-gooders as that damn media likes to depict in accordance with their rehabilitation agenda.

Instead of playing with their toys, they are doing productive work, some of which involves delivering the stuff the Red Shirts provide them. (I exclude military engaged in the South from this descriptor).

Not only have the Red Shirts produced a stream of flood relief supplies to Bangkok, they are also the majority of volunteers at the FROC, whether they are wearing Red Shirts or not.

Does that give you uninformed some context for this Media beating incessantly on the FROC.

So if Calgary is not advising you of this monumental effort nation-wide by the Red Shirts, who is?

I haven’t read about it anywhere. Have you?

Have you Farangs who drift between this political discussion Board and the other one, heard anything about it over there, or just the usual “Nation” hate mongering against the Red Shirts, Ms. Y. and her Govt.

Right-wing and left-wing are pretty useless terms at the best of times but they become pretty much completely devoid of meaning when used in this context. True, there are some groups, like Red Siam, which can safely be described as left-wing but in the main the terms just don't really get you anywhere (except, of course, if you're a fan of the utterly vacuous bullshit which Butterfly specialises in.)

Despite what you think, it is possible to criticise your delivery of the message without criticising the message. ^^I would have to agree with this. When it comes to the red shirts and yellow shirts I think of the word feudal rather than left or right wing. The fundamental difference between the two groups being their believe at who should in the top layers of the feudal pyramid.

Left and right are several thousand times better than that. Feudal societies are governed by land-owners, whose serfs render service, produce or sometimes cash in return for access to their lord's land. Thailand is absolutely nothing like that.
