    quite worrysome really ..
The best comment that I have seen on this issue. I think expats frequently lose sight of the fact that the Thai/Asian "no mercy" syndrome is one of the prime items which differentiates third world shite holes from civilized countries. As far as Thai scum are concerned, there is nothing more worthy of contempt than sickness and poverty.

None of that detracts from the naivety or arrogance of the victim. The whole situation could have been avoided with common sense.

Perhaps naivete....but hardly arrogance. Thais are murdering swine. This would happen in no first world jail. The fact that Thailand is a third or fourth world swamp does not excuse this. Fuck them and the ignorance they rode in on.

On my third visit to LOS I by chance found out that I was only welcome for a month. So 2 days later on the day my visa ran out I was taken to the circus in Phuket to get my visa extended. The best they would do was I think 10 days. As the fine was bht500 a day. I decided that it was cheaper to pay the fine at the airport.

WHich I did and happily went on my way. I don't think I'll risk that again.

Asked for a bribe and refused and got arrested. Lippy or not, it was wrong and it speaks volumes about the priorities of the Thai police.

Ohhhhhh I think you need to watch a few episodes of cops in the USA. Please tell me how it is any different. Cops beat the shit out of loud mouths all the time under the "Reasonable Force" clause.

I do not care where you live, people get beat down by police, "Civilized" as you put it or not. I guess getting beat down in a "civilized" country makes it more palatable.

I do not know what REALLY happened with this guy. His story seems extremely one-sided. Not saying it is not true but I sense some sensationalizing in it. Words like 'Horrific" "Dangerous" "Vicious" etc etc. I have seen it all to often, people getting obnoxious with police. I mean down right rude and demeaning. It happens here a lot and in Mexico because Foreigners enter these places with this "I traveled here from a real country and I can behave how I want" attitude.

Be nice to find out what REALLY unfolded.

^ For clarification, nowhere did I state or imply a bribe or that he was being extorted. He may have went to the police station with his paperwork and no money or very little to pay his overstay fine. When he did not have enough they would not let him leave. When he got detained he got angry...I mean come one...who knows. I was not there. I tossed out some speculation based on how I have seen a few behave. I just do not buy his "Horrific" story and the chain of events. Like many said, being here 10 years he had no one to contact nor did he solicit a Thai friend to go with him. I mean I have been here just under half the time he has and even I would not do that.

I 100% agree that not paying a bribe and getting tossed in jail is downright wrong anywhere in the world. I do not condone it and never will.

Bottom line. Thai police should be dealt with in the "Boondock Saints" mode....Kneeling and receiving a bullet in the back of the head from an Irishman reciting Catholic prayers.

I am far from a facist, but do believe wholeheartedly that NO ONE, ANYWHERE is above an "ass whoppin" if they so deserve it.

A dead body left in a cell for two days? I find this part rather hard to believe.

One morning a man lay cold beside him. He had died, but was to remain in the cell. In two days. No one took him away.

Something not quite right with this story???
Did he not have any friends or contacts in Thailand after living here so long?

They told me I was already 58 days over.
They told me it would be better to pay the over stay at the boarder.
So of go 2 days later 12,000B Poi Pet.
That was my first overstay & not my last.
They don't lock you up for overstay.
They do lock you up for overstay if they want, the point here is that the Police and Immigration handle these cases differently at times.

You can overstay almost indefinitely and get away with the maximum fine at immigration, but if you are arrested or randomly checked by the Police you risk several days/weeks in jail, there has been many previous similar cases, which is the main reason why overstaying is not advisable and a dangerous gamble .

This guy made the unfortunate mistake going to the police instead of addressing the issue already while in hospital where they do have experience with lots of similar situations and a sort of system in place to solve it with the immigration.

A friend in the US that follows the other Nazi site sent me a link to the same posting. Funny as I read it. Other info that surfaced was he may be linked to some shady "Swede's" conducting illegal business. Again of course all speculation but nonetheless that would make a ton of sense.

I am starting to wonder if he even really went to the police station on his own accord. I wonder if he was out after his hospital release and got stopped and they finally nabbed him using his Visa expiration as the reason. Then it went sideways from there.

That would make a heck of a lot more sense and make his pity party sympathy sensationalized media deal just that....
