The Pheu Thai Party on Wednesday filed a petition against Kaewsun Atibhodhi and Tul Sitthisomwong with the Election Commission accusing them of causing damage to the popularity of the party's No 1 list candidate Yingluck Shinawatra in violation of the Election Act.

The petition, filed by Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit, stated that Mr Kaewsun, a former member of the disbanded Assets Scrutiny Committee, and Dr Tul, leader of the multi-colour group, had publicised documents making false accusations against Ms Yingluck.

They also prepared to set up a table to collect the people's signatures to support their call for authorities to investigate Ms Yingluck for alleged perjury in connection with the 46-billion-baht assets seizure case against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The two also opened a Facebook website inviting the public to voice their opinion concerning this matter.

What they had done were in volation of Article 53 (5) of the Election Act, the petition said.

Mr Prompong said if the two had no ill intentions they should do this before or after the election.

He said he would on Thursday file a complaint with the Crime Suppression Division against Mr Kaewsun and Dr Tul for defamation and violation of the Computer Crime Act.

Thaksins govt was also full of ex military/police people - they all are - and he was/has been in bed with the establishment - or do you think he acquired those telecommunication rights - via shrewd business acumen ? his egomania and greed was what has caused the rift , else he would not have been deposed by those looking at their diminishing returns.

I can understand certain Thai people supporting Takki, the ones who are poor and have been brainwashed into thinking he is some kind of Messiah. But what sort of person, who is not a Thai, supports a crooked, evil despot ?

Okay after 1992, there was no real political violence in the streets. Does that make it clear? I've been here since 1994. From then to Thaksin's overthrow, there wasn't any major political violence against the people. All the other stuff you mentioned, wasn't politically violent. It was relatively quite for a long time. I remember a friend who had come in the 80s tell me in 1996 that he couldn't believe how Thailand has changed. He said Thailand had a coup every two years like clockwork in the past. The head of one of the high school's in the province I was in told me that the student's for democracy movement was dead in her view. She thought the young people weren't interested in politics anymore. She said something like 8 families control Thailand too which was a strange idea for me then. I still don't know what 8 families she was talking about. Anyways, something seemed to change after 1992.

Yingluck Ready to Clarify Share Concealment Case Allegation

The Pheu Thai's top MP candidate said her legal team has been assigned to look into the share concealment case, stating that she is not disheartened by the probe.

Pheu Thai's number one MP candidate, Yingluck Shinawatra said she is ready to clarify all matters regarding her testimony in the share concealment case against her brother, Thaksin Shinawatra.

Her comment came after a civic network against amnesty for ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra submitted a petition to the Senate committee on good governance and anti-corruption affairs, asking it to help speed up legal proceedings related to corruption charges filed by the now-defunct Assets Examination Committee, or AEC.

The group was led by AEC member Kaewsan Athiphothi and leader of the multi-colored shirt group, Tul Sitthisomwong.

Yingluck stated that she is not disheartened by the additional probe requests against her saying she will use patience in proving herself to the public.

The Pheu Thai's PM candidate said her legal team will be looking into the matter to decide whether to file a counter-lawsuit.

She revealed that her brother Thaksin rang her to give moral support but did not give any advice.

Yingluck said she will be patient in her political career as the public has pinned their hopes on her.

It's the lesser of evils. Who else is running that might be able to bring change? The establishment and all their invisible hands will never bring change. Loads of Thais have died since the beginning of democracy here to get this far. They've died but the the establishment that killed them is still here in power.

Seems like what any party would do in this situation.

I think the actions of PT in suggesting that Thaksin and others might get 'amnesty' drives certain people over the edge. They faint at just the idea. They think only one person can 'give amnesty' Just the use of the words drives the most deeply brainwashed yellows into shock. I love it!

I used to think exactly like that before I learnt more about Thai society.

Over a number of years, I've learnt from Professors who were part of democratic movements over the last 50 years (many of their friends/students were slaughtered in front of their eyes); I've learnt from researching Thai history such as the Rama VII museum, Siam museum, the history of the palaces around Dusit and along Prahatit Rd; I've learnt from mixing (not out of choice) with Thai hi-so's that many on this board claim to mix with, but very few have/do; I've learnt from 'stupid farmers' who have seen history unfold over the last 50+ years; I've learnt from naval offices who were fighting the army upon the streets of Bangkok only a few years ago; and more.

I'd suggest you go back to 1932, start at the Rama VII museum, look at the familly trees and statements made by Rama VII. Take a note of the names and families, follow them and their clans through to the present day. When you've done this, you will feel like a fool for posting your above comments, and realise just why the majority of Thais support, and indeed love Thaksin, so much; I don't, but they do, and they have reasons to.

With all due respect, it's no surprise the members that have been here the longest, the members who are the most educated, the members who have the sharpest analytical skills, are all anti-army/bluebloods. Let's hope you are able to join this group in the not too distant future...

Still, some interesting points emerge - principally that any legal process that might get under way would take years before being finally settled with a disqualifying conviction (if perjury were proven). Too long to in itself prevent Yingluck becoming PM if the general/parliamentary elections go that way - and staying PM "for years". In Dullsie's view, Kaewsun's real intention is to create a lever that prevents a Thaksin-inclusive amnesty happening - rather than any real prospect of preventing her becoming PM or removing her as PM.

Actually, I find the opposite to be true. The expats that I know that see through the UDD rhetoric and demagoguery and realize it is a con perpetuated by one person and his campaign to regain power tend to be the more successful ones, the ones that work in or own major businesses here, understand Thai culture and how a developing country and economy evolves.

Certainly they understand there are real issues, both in Thai society and economy, but they know that the UDD and Thaksin are not the solution and are in fact causing huge problems.

The supporter of the UDD and the people trying to rewrite Thaksin’s legacy tend to be the expats that are living on what I would call the margins of expat society. They, in many cases, have convinced themselves that on a personal level they are doing well, but inside they are very unhappy and bitter with their lot in life. They have a natural hatred and antipathy against any authority figure or anyone that has any power they don’t have. They have transferred this bitterness to an anger against the Thai middle and ruling class and a contempt for Thais in general.

All you have to do is look at the non-political posts they make in other threads. They are filled with contempt and hatred for Thai people. How often are the terms stupid, dimwitted, dense, brainless, cheaters, greedy, materialism, etc used in these posts? They save the particularly offensive remarks for when they discuss the Thai middle class. Their resentment against people that are better off then them is often astounding.

^News flash. Seeing total idiots for who they are has nothing to do with hate. OTOH, cringing in a corner citing hatred to try and defend idiocy is a losers strategy.

Additionally, any statement or comment that contains the words 'understand' and 'Thai culture' in the same sentence loses all credibility immediately. Another losers hideout. Overused, worn out and tedious.
