    The tallest living Thai woman

Saw a news item on Thai tv this afternoon, featuring a very tall young Thai lady. As it was all in Thai I wasn't able to keep up, though they did say (I think) she was now 2.12m tall.

    .

So a bit of net searching and some results.

She is Malee Duangdee, will turn 20 in December this year. At 18 she was the world's tallest teenager at 2.08m - 6'10.

Her height is caused by a tumor on the pituitary gland, behind the eye. There have been two operations to remove the tumor, but each time it has grown back. From what I gather from the news they are now trying to treat it with drugs.

a Youtube clip from 2006 - it is labeled as '360km from Bangkok, Thailand's state of Tor' which appears to be on Korat area. Helpfully it is in Mandarin or Cantonese.

In Thailand, 360 km east of Bangkok, Thailand's state of Tor

    ***********************

She is along way off being the World's Tallest Woman, currently held by China's Yao Defen, born 1972, at 2.34 m (7 ft 8 in)

Meet Malee, the world's tallest teen... and even at 6ft 10ins she could still be growing
    By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 3:14 PM on 12th April 2011

Towering head and shoulders above her parents this giant teenager is the tallest in the world at a whopping 6ft 10 ins and she could still be growing.

    .

Weighing in at 20.5 stone, Malee Duangdee from eastern Thailand knew she was different from a young age, growing much faster than her school friends.

At the age of nine her mother, Ji, 40, took her to see a doctor because she noticed a difference between her daughter and her friends and she wanted to make sure there was nothing seriously wrong with her.

Medics found a brain tumour that was pressing on a nerve. This caused a hormone imbalance meant she never stopped growing and now has an injection worth £2,000 every three months to control her growth.

As a result of her brain tumour Malee has lost her sight. 'I've been tall for as long as I can remember and taking medication is part of my daily life. But as I've got older my eyesight has got worse and it's really difficult for me to get around.'

Her mother said that they try to do their best by their daughter, but they struggle financially: 'The injections have really helped to control her growth but they are expensive.

'She is supposed to have an injection every three to six months, but we can't always afford them so we are not sure if she's still growing.'

Malee's condition appears to be under control for the moment and since leaving school her life has turned round.

A better quip would have been "Compared to the needle dick you're probably packing it would have felt the same to you even if she was an 18 year old 40 kilo tighty (e.g. still a bucket)"

In any event, she should be on Thailand's basketball and volleyball national teams, no?

Sadly no - it seems from reading the news article that she lost her eyesight as a result of the tumour behind her eyes

Just noticed that too. Yup maybe not - wait, then again, why not!! They could have one of those little amplifiers hanging around her neck with one of the other shorter playesr walking her along the basketball court - she's singing in that ultra-reverb distorted way, then when in front of the net - her minder gets the pass - hands off to Gina the Giant and Ka-Plunk! Meanwhile she'd get a few baht from court-side tearey eyed Isaan mothers moved by the ballad.
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!

    From Bangkok Post

Malee Duangdee, 18, and 2.12 metres tall, takes a photo with Khagendra Thapa Magar, 19, from Nepal who, at about 62cm (2.2 feet) tall, is one of the shortest persons in the world.
Mr Magar joined Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum's activities in Pattaya to help raise funds to pay for medication for Miss Malee. Miss Malee requires growth control injections which cost 95,000 baht a month.

I've bumped into shorty. Him and a former world record holding tall Pakistani used to trawl Dubai pubs and charge for photos.

I remember looking at these two when they came in the door and wondering what the fuck was in my drink.

Very nice gents though, and I believe made good money out of their peculiarities. Amazing how many people will hand over good cash for a snap between the two, especially when lagered up.

"kurgen" are you competing with "social" and "pupa" for the TD kunt of the year award?

It'll be a close run thing but keep posts like that coming and you might just end up beating them both.
