though others refused, rendering the trial useless.

so, if they hadn't refused then this trial would have some degree of merit?

What a crock....we should be begged to teach here....in light of this shit, we should even be given free cars houses and whores should one feel the need...along with a personal BIB to take us around and stop the daylight robbery we may face on a daily basis...

    There that's lifted the bar.
Is it not a case of the chicken and the egg? Teachers in Thailand all complaining about their pay and conditions, all the schools complaining about the quality of the teachers that they hire.

Couldn't get passed the, "You are farang" part. Funny how that is such a complete and total, debate-ending answer for so many of them.
I wonder how it would be taken if you turned the table, and you ended any conversation about any sort of interesting issue with "You are Thai, don't bother"

"How do you manage to save so much money?" 'You are Thai, don't bother'

"How do you bake bread?" 'You are Thai, don't bother'

"How do you drive a car?" 'You are Thai, don't bother'

"Can you help me with this problem?" 'You are Thai, don't bother'

In some way, they ARE correct -- you are dealing with a specifically cultural situation that is difficult to understand, lest of all explain, if you do not share the same cultural background.

On the other hand, for what it's worth, I have NEVER encountered that famous "You are farang" answer, and have always received an effort at explaining things to me when I asked. Weird, eh?

this is the most surprising sentence, implying that had all the children taken the 'test', the trial would have been useful.
Oh, I found that part of the article veritably hilarious.

Mate, on Samui I heard it so many times it's unbelievable... Funny eh??

I must admit it was normally in situations where the locals wanted to rip someone off....namely a tourist.

At my new school I started on Monday, the 'sole' foreign teacher has been moved out of the teachers room and put on the 3rd floor in a tight little corridor opposite a noisy classroom in horrendous heat with no fan what so ever. Compared to the nice fan computer room that the Thai Teachers have and I as told I would be in there also.

This all took place within ten minutes of me being in the school...get the feeling that they don't wanna have me around!!!!!

Fuc*in nice welcome that eh....However in true 'Mr R Sole' style I have invaded their territory, like a true Brit.....I want my TD time I can't do with another 2mths of not posting drivel.....
There are no strangers here, just friends you haven't met yet.
