Gang War Erupts After Pattaya International Music Festival

Gang War Erupts After Pattaya International Music Festival

After the final night of the Pattaya International Music Festival on Sunday, March 21, as so often happens after such events, there was an incidence of gang warfare between two teenage gangs, involving guns, that resulted in one fatality and three other injuries. Police are currently conducting further investigations into the incident.

Pattaya, 22 March, 2010: In the early morning, today, following the Pattaya International Music Festival, gang warfare erupted under highway bridge no.7 on the Sukhumvit Road, some 50m before the PTT petrol station, Naklua, between two rival teenage motorcycle gangs, involving one gang being shot with firearms.

Being notified of the incident at 1.30am, a police team led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Phongsawat Wongwan (Pattaya Police Investigator), accompanied by paramedics from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Services, went to the incident to investigate.

On arrival, the police discovered a gang of 50 youths on parked motorbikes gathered round where the severe incident had occurred, to find four shot youths lying in the road, 1 of them dead. The dead youth was Kraisorn Tanphet, 14, a Grade 8 student from Mueng Pattaya 8 Secondary School. He had been shot directly in right eye thoroughly the occipital nerve, with another shot to the right chest. The other three severely injured youths were sent to either Banglamung Hospital or Pattaya Memorial Hospital for treatment. All the injured were from Mueng Pattaya 7 Secondary School. They were Saran Rurorb, 15, shot in the right leg, Natthaphon Thabthim, 17, a Grade 9 student, shot in the left leg, and Supphakiet, 15, shot in the left hip.

At the scene, police also discovered a red Honda Wave 10m from the dead body, as well as eight 9mm bullets and three no. 12 bullets, (2 used and 1 unused) on the road, which were kept as evidence.

Questioning Aphichat Rordnoi, 16, a friend of the deceased youth, who had been riding pillion at the time of the incident, police were told that before the incident, the gang leader, Kraisorn, and 50 gang members had gone to the final night of the Pattaya International Music Festival 2010 at the Bali Hai Pier Stage, South Pattaya. After the end of the festival, all the gang members left by motorbike, in order to either go home or drop friends off at different points.

At the same time, several other teen gangs were driving motorbikes out of the concert, going home. When Kraisorn’s gang reached 20m away from the incident, they found 20 youths belonging to a rival gang had parked their motorbikes beside the road. One of these teenagers pulled out a gun and began shooting at members of Kraisorn’s gang, killing the gang leader and severely injuring three others. Frightened by the developments, the other members of Kraisorn’s gang fled the scene in different directions. The gang containing the shooter also fled.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Nanthawut Suwanlaorng (Pattaya Police Superintendent) put the incident down to inter-gang rivalry and told the press that the police are currently conducting further investigations into the incident to bring the assailant to justice.

Pattaya Music Festival hailed a success

Pattaya Music Festival hailed a success

The three-day Pattaya Music Festival has, not surprisingly, been hailed a success by organizers.

According to those charged with maintaining security at the event it was definitely the quietest as far as incidents within the concert areas were concerned with no arrests taking place during the entire festival.

On Saturday afternoon and evening there were severe problems with traffic congestion in the central and south Pattaya areas, but this is only to be expected given the general infrastructure and the thousands of extra vehicles converging on the city.

The Sunday night highlight, if it can really be called that, took place at the Bali Hai port stage where the extremely popular Thai rock star LoSo set fire to his guitar on stage.

Hardly an Earth-shattering event, but it did draw wild scenes of appreciation from his predominantly teenage audience, who might never have seen such a thing before.

Sensibly, LoSo waited until he had finished his set before commencing performing his incendiary act.

So knowing that this is a regular occurrance it would be better for the police to be else-where . Just in-case someone gets shot. Only in thailand.

The gang leader was 14 years old? A bit young to be leading anything.

I have a bit of a problem calling a bunch of people on Honda Clicks a "motorcycle gang".

I heard your motorcycle had to be over 110cc before you'd be accepted as a member.

So progressive aint it Thai music, fvck me Hendrix did this at monteray in 1967. never went to the pattaya festival as could find no info as to who was on and where. Have seen much violence at concerts and always follows a similar pattern. One youth suddenly kicks or punches another and then promptly runs off with the assaulted one chasing him through the crowd, such brave guys!

So he thinks he's Jimi Hendrix now? Can't even come up with his own cool gimmick.

How could you forget the blue screws and the trimmed down saddle? I drive a 400/4. Please please never reveal that to my friends back home (where anything less than 1000cc is gay).

    What's a "no. 12" bullet? A 12 gauge shotgun shell?

Yes and Pattaya's inner city streets are filled with these type of gang crimes every day of the year and the BiB seem to not know how to handle it.

I was driving home the other night and saw a pack of Motorcy kids beating the fvck out of some other kid just outside 7Eleven on Soi Muslim. My first instinct was to stop but thought better of it as I didn't want to become another statistic on Chitown's death list.

Crime here is out of control and it has been largely brought here by the North Eastern brigade not to mention the Russians.

Anyone living up in Isarn notice a rise in crime particularly amongst the Thai youth in the past years?
