Also,as mentioned before, and something which would not stand up in a Thai court, I know the state of mind of her..and where her appetite for sexual experimentation had begun to take her.It was also no mystery that Surin saw himself as a real lady's man,Falang girls were his specialty.

Thai Murder Mother Won’t Rest Until Killer Found

THAI MURDER MOTHER WON’T REST UNTIL KILLER FOUND

THE mother of a 23-year-old Welsh backpacker murdered in Thailand has spoken of the need to keep the case in the public eye, said she is "positive" the killer will be brought to justice.
Kirsty Jones, 23, of Brecon, Mid Wales, was strangled while staying at a guesthouse in Chiang Mai, , on August 10, 2000.
No one has yet been brought to justice, despite extensive publicity surrounding the case in Thailand and the UK.
Although Welsh and Thai police have established a DNA profile of their suspect, believed to be of South-East Asian origin, they still have no match.

Her mother Sue said she believed state-of-the-art DNA testing technology in the UK could help detectives make a vital breakthrough in the case. There was extensive publicity in the UK and Thailand following Miss Jones' death and The Royal Thai Police have since carried out three inquiries.

The Liverpool University graduate was just three months into a two-year round-the-world trip when she was murdered at a 70 baht-a- night guesthouse in north Thailand.

Mrs Jones said “The first time she went off to Australia between A-levels and university worried me to death. She was just 19, but it was the best education she ever had and she learned so much as far as life skills were concerned."

“I think because this has happened to us, a farming family from a farming community in Wales, people realised it could happen to anybody.”

“It would mean justice for Kirsty more than anything, and the feeling that I haven’t let her down in some way. I think about her every day. It’s probably easier to think about her now, but there are times when it’s very, very difficult to think about her,”

Mrs Jones said she was hopeful the Royal Thai Police would agree to return some of her daughter's belongings to the UK for further forensic testing at some point this year.

She said: "DNA testing does move on so quickly. I know Kirsty's sarong was tested in this country, but that was a couple of years ago."

Mrs Jones admitted she had never expected her daughter's killer to still be at large seven years on, but she was reluctant to criticise the Thai authorities.
"The Royal Thai Police are doing all that they can do within their capabilities," she said.
"The hardest thing to deal with is the pace that they investigate, which is incredibly slow but they do a very thorough job. I remain positive."

Roger Williams, Liberal Democrat MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, said: "I do despair at the present moment that the Thai police will ever commit enough resources and energy to get a result.
"I believe that it's quite possible to get a person charged and convicted of this terrible crime. "But the way the Thai police are approaching it at the moment, I don't think that is going to take place."

The BBC Wales news website has tried to contact the Thai embassy for a response but has been unable to get one.

In September 2001, Kirsty's family expressed frustration at the way Thai police had carried out a worldwide search of DNA databases at which point Dyfed-Powys Police became involved. Two years later, the force was asked to interview a number of key witnesses in Britain, and international crime agency Interpol carried out a worldwide search of DNA databases.

    Thumbs down

That's a shit, Poor girl was murdered in Thailand but the press don't mention the name of the murderer, what is that??? Common, I think this case will not make Thailand look worse. Every country has some shit things like this. We have to cooperate and help each other in order to make any people to do such a bad thing to the travellers. Avoiding the truth doesn't help anyone, It caused pain inside.

The investigation is still not finished so I think it makes sense to not mention names. Still, that did not stop the press from mentioning the names of suspects earlier in the investigation.

Not very ethical. If the suspect is innocent he or she will still remain a suspect to the public long after, even though the police have found the real killer.

I think this case will not make Thailand look worse.
I think it does make Thailand look worse in the eyes of some, but there was and is obviously no lasting impact as tourism goes on as usual.

You are right people get killed everywhere, but murdered backpackers is still not very common... it has happened three times in the past 10 years in Thailand that I can recall. Even though this is not a lot, it is still more than in many other countries.

We have to cooperate and help each other in order to make any people to do such a bad thing to the travellers. Avoiding the truth doesn't help anyone, It caused pain inside.
Yes, definitely. I think the UK police and the Thai police have been cooperating too. The truth? If somebody knows, they do not seem to want to let the police know.

The main suspect is rumoured to be a CM policeman, so I don't think calling the police would do much good.

BTW - This is not the same guy owning a rather large nightclub in Walking Street in Pattaya.....

    Nuff said......

The chance of ever getting the truth out of this case must be almost as slim as bringing the murderer to justice. I feel sorry for Kirsty and her family but I don't think they will ever see it resolved.

I disagree. Loose lips sink ships. And one day the ship will sink. There are just too many people involved that KNOW who did it. Just a matter of pushing the right buttons. I hope so anyway for Kirsty's parents sake.

2007 backpacker murder case 'still active'

2007 backpacker murder case 'still active'

(dpa) - Thai police still investigating the murder of Kirsty Jones in Chiang Mai seven years ago have asked British authorities for fresh forensic evidence, radio reports said Tuesday.

Department of Special Investigation (DSI) deputy director general Pinyo Thongthai told reporters that police will ask British authorities for fresh DNA and semen specimens related to Jones' murder and rape at the Aree Guest House in Chiang Mai, 560 kilometres north of Bangkok, in the year 2000.

The old evidence is now too old to be useful, Pinyo said.

"The DSI will not drop the case," said Pinyo, who was in Chiang Mai on the case. "We will pursue it to the limit."

Jones, a 23-year-old British tourist, was allegedly strangled and raped by a still unidentified assailant at the Aree Guest House, a backpackers' hangout.

Semen tests suggested the assailant was an Asian, but police fingered the British owner of the guest house as the prime suspect.

After spending some time in Thai prison for allowing his visa to expire, the British national was eventually allowed to return to England where he remains now.

The well-publicised case was handed over to the DSI in 2005.

"Our sympathies remain with the family of Kirsty Jones," said Daniel Painter, the press secretary at the British Embassy in Bangkok. "Our prime objective, and that of the Thai authorities, is to see the murderer brought to trial."

    why worry about TV policies

they all seem to be driven either by self-interest (ad revenues being threatened) or by ego
Is it just me or are 90% of the people on the TV Chiang Mai forum total losers?

They've hidden a couple of closed threads. One is on the news forum and the other tucked away under general - south east asia news.

What nationality is Dr Patpong ?

And yet people still keep on posting there...

It reminds me of the Simpsons where Bart keeps on touching a live wire repeatedly because he's too stupid to learn that it will hurt him.

I don't know, the thread title "How often do you inflate your car tyres?" begs the loser category to me.
