Thailand nabs three Europeans after paedophile tip

Bangkok - Thai police on Tuesday arrested three European tourists, all in their 60s, on charges of sexually abusing minors at a beach resort.

The suspects were rounded up in Pattaya, 100 kilometres south-east of Bangkok, after Thai police were tipped off by Interpol about a Swedish child sex tour to the beach resort, notorious for its sleazy entertainment scene.

The men arrested were Swedish nationals Karl Erik Berglund, 60, and Lars Anders Ellerman, 65, and British national George Stanley Gibbs, 67.

'These men have abused many children in the Pattaya area,' said Police Major General Chaiwat Gaetworachai, head of Thailand's Child Protection Division.

He acknowledged that several of the men on the sex tour had evaded arrest.

Surely the Thai authorities have the names and passport ids of the 'group' members....in theory, they just need to nab them at their respective departure point.

Precious little will happen to these perverts whilst they are in Thailand.

At best, they'll land in a jail for one, or two days, until they can make bail. They'll go out & repeat offend for years on end.

Most likely, they will never face a long spell inside a Thai jail. Thai's don't seem to class pedophile activities as anything out of the ordinary, unfortunately.

The media circus is eye-candy only - other than that, nothing really happens.

Another awful Songkran for the people of Pattaya. Why can we not have the same date as in Bangkok (April 13th) and finish in one day? A lot of high-spending tourists left the city because of the water harassment during the six days before the 19th. This has turned into a festival for children and drunken guests at the open bars. Instead of promoting the city it scares away the normal tourists - I am sure this was not the intention, so please change the rules next year.

Were any of them mods on TV? Surely even if they are not nabbed in Thailand they can now be prosecuted in their home countries? Seem to recall this happening fairly recently with some sicko in the US. These ratbags give the country, and all single guys who come here a bad name, hope they get a few years to put others off.
