Thaksin : Building a Better Future Foundation

    Thaksin unveils new development foundation
    November 17, 2008 : Last updated 11:20 pm

Convicted ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra founds a foundation and research group to stimulate development in Asia and uncover potential and help address the challenges of developing countries.

With offices in Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates, the Building a Better Future Foundation sought to "nurture the next generation of Asia's business and financial leaders'' and help draft development policy.

Thaksin who is on the run from jail terms in Thailand wrote on the foundation's website under the headline, "Don't give up hope in the crisis," that the foundation sought to provide support to stimulate development in Asia, and is recruiting an incisive Think Tank group of rising stars.

The Toxin PR team will go too any lengths to bandaid his flagging reputation.

I really do not understand why he just doesn't come back to Thailand and front his detractors head on.

Everybody knows he will not serve any time for past offences and or convictions.

This whole thing goes deeper than what we understand.

Its a plot to undermine the financial authority of the ruling class who don't actually produce anything. Raising a new generation of entrepreneurial go-getters could produce thousands of Thaksin-like, new-money challengers competing for the wealth of the country currently in the hands of the old school.
Its a long term strategy aimed directly at the heart of the old semi-feudal system. The elites have good reason to fear Thaksin and his ideas.

^ a bit naive ? Thaksin is old school, his management is old school, his only problem is challenging a certain authority to become the new hero of Thailand

Thaksin's foundation - November 18, 2008 Thaksin's Building a Better Future Foundation has gone online.

There is practically no content except a letter from Thaksin and news that four projects are being considered. The domain was registered just 13 days ago. That was the same week during which Thaksin's UK visas were revoked (confirmed by UK authorities on November 8). Rolling out the site quickly with little content also indicates a desire to get in front of negative news about the visa revocations, the divorce news and Thaksin being "on the run" and "looking for a country."

Building a Better Future Foundation appears seems to be run by Hong Kong marketing company Upstream Asia and registered by Alex Trup (Alex's blog with an interesting note about possible Marlboro sponsorship of school uniforms in China).

Khun Thaksin was a pretty good PM by the (admittedly abysmal) standards of those that preceded and followed him, but he ain't gonna be winning any Thai elections from Dubai. If anything, he might cost PT the next elections.

it's not like PT current leaders are any better than Thaksin

This government needs to get going with a serious socialist agenda, it won't last long otherwise

It's a shame he was such a thief. A successful businessman as Prime Minister could have really done a lot for this Country.
I never could understand that; you would think someone as wealthy as he was would not be capable of being corrupted, he certainly did not need the money. It's just a really sad, the strife of the last few years has cost Thailand so much.

that was actually the very argument used by the Bangkok middle class in the 2001 election

"he is so rich, he will never rob us, unlike the other politicians"

    right

Always a naive argument. But it was his nepotism and the perceived threat of his mass popularity that really toppled him, rather than his corruption.
