24 students killed as bus overturns

(BangkokPost.com) - A tour bus carrying students of Khon Kaen College of Agriculture and Technology on an overnight trip crashed in Prachin Buri province early Friday morning, killing 24 of the students and injuring about 30 others early Friday.

According to police, the bus was carrying some 50 students for an educational tour in the eastern province, and was probably running at a high speed. It went off the road and crashed at around 3.30am.

Police believed that the cause of the crash was that the driver was unfamiliar with the route.

Chaturong Muangkam, the bus driver, was found dead at the scene.

Injured students were taken to three nearby hospitals.

    Very sad indeed.

I read somewhere that alot of bus drivers are ex convicts. It figures to be honest, there's seems to be a complete lack of thought put into there driving. The main problem is with the speed they drive, when the bus is packed with people; what the fuck are the benefits of driving 100 km's an hour plus, when there are people standing in the aisle.

I have a genuine hatred towards all bus drivers in this country. Ever noticed how your never allowed to sit in the seats closest to the driver, they are reserved for nice looking birds so the fat cnut of a driver can leer at them, in his m150/yabba'd up trance, instead of looking at the road.

    That's not a cause.

It could have been a contributing factor, but that in itself is not the cause of the accident.

Sometimes I wish these people would grow up.

Wonder if his blood will be tested.
Wonder if this will mean new safety measures and procedures.
Wonder if this will mean stricter requirments for drivers of heavy vehicals.

A couple of years ago I was chatting with a P4 teacher just before the New Years break. She mentioned that she was going to the local Wat that afternoon. I asked if there was some ceremony or festival going on and she said, no, 11 years ago today 20 teachers from this school were killed in an accident. She went on to say that one of them was her older sister and so she was going to pray for them.

She didn't say what kind of accident it was, but I imagine the teachers were all on a bus going to some conference or something.

It doesn't help that buses are among the most agressively driven vehicles on Thailand's roads.

The thing that shits me the most about Thailand is there attitude towards road safety, they have absolutely no regard for the consequences of driving like twats.

Bastards they are in this regard.

like that bus fullo teachers (students too I think) plunging off a ravine on the way to Chiang Mai only 2 years ago maybe.

Just as well the Thais learn from things like this and will introduce some actual safety measures.

"Oh, mai bpen rai". Yeah, that'll help stop it from happening again in 6 months time eh.

Yeah, the local Thai newspapers usually have 'stupidity' across the front page.

Erm, because it's a valid point.

There are millions of yaabaa (methamphetamine) addicts in Thailand and the drug is a scourge of society.

Many drivers use the drug to stay awake, and it may or may not have been a factor in this accident.

Since it is so common here I see nothing wrong in someone pointing that out.
