Italian Resident of Pattaya arrested for child sexual assault

Italian Resident of Pattaya arrested and charged with sexual assault of a 12 year old boy.

Acting on arrest warrant 65/2551, Police Colonel Kanisorn, from the Provincial Police Woman and Child Protection Unit based at Pattaya Police Station arrested an Italian National on Wednesday Afternoon who was accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a boy aged 12, Mr. Ruggero Costa aged 59 from Italy who has been living here in Thailand for the last 17 years. He was arrested at the Satitman Apartments in Soi Bongai 1 in South Pattaya. He fully cooperated with officers and was taken back to the Police Station where he denied all allegations of sexual assault brought against him, despite physical evidence found by doctors on the 12 year old boy. Police also tell us that they were aware that he was often seen with other young boys and girls of the same age but Police were unable to collect enough evidence to charge Mr. Costa with other incidents of sexual assault of a minor. Mr. Costa has been charged with sexual assault of a minor under the age of 15 and will be processed in accordance with Thai Law.

Well if I look back over the last couple of years here in Pattaya, and the kiddie fiddling arrests, I think the Italians are in first place.

Obviously the more arrested the better, but they must be stoopid. There are much safer pastures for them (which i won't publish here). Pattaya is a pretty permissive place, but very anti- kiddie fiddlers. Why don't they just FO? We don't want them.

Question is Sabang, are kiddie fiddlers going to Pattaya, or are people becoming pedos whilst living there? If he went there as a pedo, then there has been 17 years of abuse and i don't know how many kids involved

^what i mean by the above is that there are millions of people with paedophilic tendancies, but most of them manage to control them, but maybe in a place like Pattaya more of them are likely to lose control.

^ You prolly have a point Nick, but I think that the subculture we're on about mostly came here as Pedo's. Probably several have been carrying on this way for years and gotten away with it, so they stick around until one day they're caught. Many others (I would venture most) have thankfully left.

One of the less savoury aspects of Pattaya history is that during the 80's, even into the early 90's, pedoism was quite visible and tolerated in Pattaya. No doubt the 70's too.

59 years old...I hope he finds Thai prison to be a very uncomfortable retirement venue.

IF the charges against him are true.

How would you 'act' under the circumstances?

Definitely IF he is guilty, trial by media is seldom worthwhile. If he is guilty, may he rot in jail. If he is not then keep his face off the papers.

I'd be raising hell and going mad with them snapping pictures of my face when I didn't do anything.

There must have been good reason to suspect him of doing what he did, physical evidence etc etc

Another proof that the Italian mafia is losing ground in Pattaya and that the Russian mafia is taking the upper hand.
    He should move to Phuket...

Interesting question. I recall a debate a few years ago around "Does Thailand make one a pervert or do you arrive as one". If you have sex in your face everyday in Pattaya, would it be enough to change the behavior of a normal person?

Not so much change the behaviour of a normal person, as allow the latent desires of an already abnormal person to surface.

But maybe if somebody got in with the wrong people their views could become perverted as well. I assume most of these guys have found ways of convincing themselves they are not doing anything wrong and could use this to convince others.

I think a place like Pattaya could definitely allow people to stretch their notions of what is "wrong" to suit their various inclinations. People justify prostitution in all sorts of ways, after all. The sheer numbers of clients in such a place must act as a "reassurance". I can definitely imagine pedophiles or latent pedophiles feeling more "relaxed" in a place with a generally casual attitude to sex, and not a great deal of respect or self-respect in evidence.

If this man has been an active pedophile for 17 years, it's not surprising he became blase.

Can somene with no previous interest, subconsciously or otherwise, develop an interest out of sheer craving for new & different forms of excitement ? I think it's possible; think of what happens in prisons and other abnormal environments.

I am just speculating, without any psychological understanding of this stuff.

Are some of these people just totally unable to control themselves, but know it's wrong (or at the very least, abnormal ?).
