When I look back, the fondest memory I have is not really of the Goons. It is of a girl called Julia with enormous breasts.

And now, it's time to get back to the topic.

There's still some thick people who are Toxin's tool. They go to Khun Banhan's house and ask him to send candidates for the election.

The thais are not alone in electing the candidate with the biggest, most expensive election campaign, and you can hardly blame them for not predicting Thaksin's unorthodox approach to politics and the extent he willing to go to to silence his critics.
You may be a long timer here Whiteshiva, and you appear to have a fair knowledge of the political arena here, but don't you think it's just a little too easy for you to sit on the fence and criticize?

Thanks for the pictures GoW, and it's great to read the passion in your posts!

I don't remember her! Sounds a bit like the role that Aimi McDonald played in At Last the 1948 Show.

Sorry - back to the thread.

Yes, Thaksin will still have his suporters, but don't be suckered into thinking that those stiffs on the stage who oppose him are doing so for YOUR benefit.

Also the upper house are going to sign together (at least 60 people) to agree that Toxin must quit within 3rd of Mar.

Thanks GOW, for the News updates and great photos. Being in the US, it's difficult to sort through all the reported rubbish and try to determine what's really going on.

P.S. Call me old fashioned, but I think your old avatar wasn't very becoming and have to agree with klongmaster. I'm happy to see that you've changed it, so please keep the new one, or something similar.

Squarehead gave away open letters to people in China Town, Bangkok. The story is about why he desolved the lower house and also said he was annoyed from some people.

He also said he will never ever quit! and there will be a big speech at Sanam Loung on 3rd of Mar. He will tell everything to people.

    This is that open letter.

And this is what he said yesterday.

''I'll speak my mind on March 3 at Sanam Luang. I've been the target all along. I'd like to ask everyone who wants to hear about everything to come over. I'll tell all,''

    'See you on Sunday'
Members of the Dharma Army of Santi Asoke religious sect board a truck after attending the anti-Thaksin rally that ended early yesterday morning at Sanam Luang. They vowed to return on March 5 for a mass gathering to "Close the account on Mr Thaksin".

Wally - I agree that Thais do not have a monopoly on electing bad leaders - Italy is a country that springs to mind, and it never ceases to amaze me that the good ol' US of A with, what, a couple of hundred million inhabitants, seem unable to produce better candidates for their government (although they have produced a few noteworthy ones in the past). But keep in mind that Thaksin was not a newcomer to politics, and the people he surrounded himself with the first time around were basically the same crowd that brought Thailand to its knees in '97.

And most people in this country (with a few very brave exceptions) have gladly stood by all these years (and Thais are not really an exception in this regards, although the general level of apathy here is appalling) while the media was curtailed, critics was harassed, human rights deteriorated, corruption worsened, etc, etc. They did nothing - until now.

In some cases, the general public may perhaps be excused for not being privy to all the dirty deeds of the current government, but the so-called leaders of this recent "peoples movement" have known about this for years, in some cases been part of the problem. And then suddenly, when public opinion starts to shift, they all come out of the woodwork. That is why I have such problems believing that what they are currently doing is simply in their own interest, rather than for the good of the general population.

I am probably far less knowledgeable that you give me credit for, but I try to follow what is going on. Being a member of the FCCT here in Bangkok for a few years has to a certain extent opened my eyes to how much crap is really going on here, and I am hardly an insider. As for sitting on the fence, I can't see that I have much of a choice. I actually think farangs showing up (and being photographed by the media) at Anti-Thaksin rallys has a detrimental effect, and as a foreigner I don't really have a say in what is going on in this country. The only thing I can do is try to understand the situation, and pass on whatever I learn or deduct from what is happening, although I will be the first one to agree that it is very difficult to be objective in this matter.

I agree GOW - thanks for starting this thread, for your posts, and please accept my apologies for being a bit "sharp" earlier on (still think your current avatar is more suitable, though ). I think we basically agree on the PM, and my "som nam nah" was not meant as an insult to yourself or the Thai electorate as a whole, just as a reminder that the people who gave Thaksin the mandate bears some of the responsibility for the mess that he has brought this country to. I probably could have put it more eloquently, and will try to be more tactful from now on.

Senator Kraisak - now there is a guy I'd like to see quoted more in the media. Watch out for this guy! A scolar and a gentleman if there ever was one.

And not a great fan of the PM and his cronies, either.........

re. Italy, I find many similaraties between the TH and IT PMs... the later being though much more avid, dangerous and not as naive as his LoSsian counterpart.
Other curious coincidence, both nations are scheduled to have elections at the same time..go figure!

That will remain a secret , but please note that FCCT it is open to anyone, although if you are not a member, you may have to pay an entrance fee of a few hundred baht if there is something going on that evening. Also, you get a discount in the bar if you are a member.

Oh yeah - ifyou are associated with the media, the member's fee is slightly less.
