Fisherman Injured After Falling into Automatic Car Park Elevator Shaft

On July 6, 2025, at 7:06 AM, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit in Pattaya received an urgent call reporting a person injured after falling from a height at an automatic car park at Bali Hai Pier. Rescue volunteers immediately rushed to the scene.

At the incident site, located in the elevator shaft of the underground level of the automatic car park, approximately 5 meters deep, rescuers found Mr. Worapong Taengtong, a 66-year-old man, lying injured on the ground. He had sustained a severely fractured right leg and a laceration above his right eyebrow. Rescue workers provided initial first aid before carefully extracting him from the shaft, a challenging operation due to the confined space. Mr. Worapong was then urgently transported to a nearby hospital. A fishing rod was also found at the scene.

According to Mr. Worapong, he was attempting to cross to the beachside by cutting through the car park area. Unaware that the path led to an elevator shaft, and with impaired vision following recent cataract surgery, he stepped into the void and fell, striking the ground below. After regaining his composure, he promptly called for rescue assistance.

Authorities are investigating the incident to ensure safety measures are reviewed at the facility.

Maybe he had been self-medicating with yadong?
The article is a bit unclear. If he was local then he'd have known where he was. If he was just visiting then fishing without clear vision would be a bit of a challenge. If you cannot see a massive hole in the ground then how can you hope to bait a hook?

An unlit hole in the dark could trap even those with 20/20 vision.

willy, it is rarely fully dark on thailands urban streets, and so the only ones likely to become prey to one of the many unmarked hazards to be encountered are the drunken reveller, the drugged oaf, the unfortunate blind, the careless chickenhead or one of the many airheads who walk about glued to their phones.

the fisherman, at 7.00am, was in all probability still intoxicated from his intake the night before.
