Dutch Tourist Found Dead In Ayutthaya Hotel Under Mysterious Circumstances

A Dutch national was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances in a historic district hotel room this afternoon, with authorities launching a thorough investigation into what appears to be a violent death.

Hotel staff made the shocking find at approximately 1:00 PM in room 319 of a Hua Ro subdistrict establishment after the guest, 54-year-old R. D., failed to check out at the scheduled noon departure time. The housekeeper who entered the room discovered Mr. D.’s lifeless body lying beside the bed, clad only in shorts, with blood stains visible on the mattress. Investigators noted the bathtub contained bloody water, adding to the scene’s disturbing nature.

Police forensic teams documented a deep laceration on the victim’s left wrist among other potential trauma. A handwritten note in English containing contact information for both the Dutch Embassy and D.’s brother was recovered from the scene, along with several liquor and soft drink bottles. The body has been transferred to Thammasat University Hospital for autopsy to determine the precise cause and time of death, currently estimated to have occurred between 6:00-7:00 AM.

While initial evidence suggests possible self-inflicted injury, Ayutthaya police emphasized they are exploring all possibilities, including homicide. “We’re analyzing CCTV footage and conducting interviews to establish whether anyone else entered the room during Mr. Delft’s stay,” explained lead investigator Police Colonel Somsak Niramit. The Dutch national had checked in alone three days prior, with no visitors officially registered.

Authorities have initiated contact with the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Bangkok to facilitate notification of next of kin and discuss potential repatriation of remains. The embassy has pledged full cooperation with Thai investigators.

This incident marks one of the more disturbing tourist-related deaths in Ayutthaya’s recent history, though local officials stress it appears isolated. The hotel continues normal operations while cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
