A couple have been charged with trying to smuggle cannabis valued at £1million into the UK after being stopped at Heathrow Airport.


Sian Warren, 34, and Daniel McDonald, 36, were on their way back from Thailand when officers from the National Crime Agency reportedly found more than 51kg of cannabis in their luggage. It is understood that the drug was in four cases that the pair were carrying. They appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court where they have been charged with importing Class B drugs and have been bailed under curfew ahead of a plea hearing on June 26 at Isleworth Crown Court.

Operation Chaophraya

Thai Customs have introduced stricter screening measures at the border which has led to over 800 cannabis smugglers being intercepted between October 2024 and March 2025, the Home Office said.
More than nine tonnes of cannabis were seized by Thai authorities over the same period.

Separately, the Home office intercepted £6m of cannabis from passengers at Bangkok Airport in a joint operation that saw Border Force and the National Crime Agency (NCA) officers stationed in Thailand.
Since Operation Chaophraya began in July 2024, over 50 British nationals have been arrested in Thailand for attempted cannabis smuggling.

A 21-year-old woman is being held by police in Germany after allegedly travelling with cannabis from Thailand.
Authorities in Germany say Cameron Bradford, from Knebworth in Hertfordshire, was stopped and arrested at Munich Airport on 22 April.
They told BBC Newsbeat she's still in custody there although it's unclear what the next stage of the process will be.
