As many as 20 students were injured, three of them seriously, when a pickup truck rammed into the rear of their vehicle, which was a pickup modified as a school bus, in Ban Dan Lan Hoi district of Sukhothai province today.
Eyewitnesses claim that the pickup truck was travelling at high speed when it collided with the school vehicle. Many of the 20 students on board were standing and a number of them were thrown from the vehicle by the force of the impact. All the injured students were rushed to hospital.
Police say that the driver of the truck which rear-ended the school vehicle was breathalysed, which showed a blood-alcohol content of 133mg/dL. The legal limit in Thailand is 50mg/dL for drivers over 20 years old. For those under 20, it is only 2mg/dL.
